NYC people, what are good cell phone providers?

I am very partial to Tmobile, how is the reception in NYC? How about Verizon?

Phone will be used between WTC site to Canal St, so it is a pretty limited area.

Any feedback is appreciated🙂

in nj verizon has the best coverage.

when i go into the city verzion has it covered well.

i only made one call from lower manhattan so i dont know of the coverage there but i assume if its good elsewhere in the city that it is fine there.

Verizon has the best coverage in the city, followed by T-Mobile, but I don't know how closely.
I have T-Mobile but I'll be switching to Verizon when I go to college (NYU, downtownish)

Verizon.

T-Mobile/ATT Wireless sucks. I had ATT for 6 years and it plain sucked. Lots of dead spots in the city and it is especially bad in high volume areas like conference centers.

Sprint isn't bad.

No experience with Cingular.

I use T-mobile at Fulton St. The signal strength is high near WTC, no problem at all.
But I have bad bad signal at home in Queens. 🙁

Okay so far it seems like Tmobile and Verizon. My family all has Tmobile right now ... hrmm maybe one with Verizon now?

Verizon is the best.. I hear complaints about sprint all the time (and my sprint phone did not work at my school in queens)... Tmobile is OK .. Very mediocre actually (spotty reception indoors, etc.) and ATT sucks in uptown manhattan for some odd reason (i get cut off all the time around columbia univ.).. Verizon works everywhere all the time .. I'm with virgin right now just because it's very affordable.. Got it today so I don't have an opinion yet..

Well that is excellent news. My brothers apt is 2 blocks from WTC... so he should have a good signal.

His work is only a few more blocks away, thanks for the info:beer:

When I lived in Jackson Heights, I had no signal with ATT in Queens.

I have Verizon and Sprint. I had ATT/T-Mobile.

Verizon is much much better. ATT seriously sucks in NYC. I have to go around the city alot and whenever there is high call volume, ATT sucked. It sucks in pretty much near all the major hotels. When I worked in the WFC, which is across from the WTC, I barely got a signal.

I honestly hate both Verizon and ATT the companies and would prefer to use another carrier but I have to hand it to Verizon. Their network is much better than anyone else in NYC.

I heard Verizon is good but T-mobile is more cheap.

And the most important thing is I got my Samsung phone with $0 payment, and they gave me $120 instant rebate. Technically I made $120 that day. 🙂

Since when is AT&T equivalent to T-Mobile? T-Mobile is way better than AT&T. Sprint is horrible, especially with dropped calls. I have T-Mobile now and will probably switch to Verizon, only because I can get the employee rate...

AT&T sucks badly in NYC. Sometimes I get roaming charges in my apartment because it can't connect to any of the local cell sites (yet Phoenix and most of Tampa were considered local with a Brooklyn cell area code...) When I get a signal its between 1 and 3 bars, never 4 or 5. Disconnects and line noise are pretty frequent.

Verizon seems to be THE choice for cellular here, no contest. Even though their land lines absolutely suck and they can't successfully install DSL in anything less than 8 months.

Verizon is definitely good for wireless. LOL@ the Dsl comment. Unfortunately i have to use Qwest for dsl cuz verizon doesnt cover my area.

AT&T is good for Long Island (suffolk)

Sprint use to suck badly a while back.

T-mobile ?used to be Voicestream? And voicestream absolutely was horrible. But t-mobile shaped it up i guess.

My answer: Get a Nextel.
