NYC Mideastern store keepers are more polite

I'm noticing "thank you's' and even friendly stuff like smiles when at convenience stores or donut shops. Usually they are expressionless, and sometimes even come off as rude or arrogant.

Just my observation. Anyone else experience this?

They probably are trying to act as nice as possible so people don't kick their ass. Some people are stupid like that (the attackers not the store clerks).

I've lived in NYC for 3 years. EVERYONE acts like that normally. It's sad that Arabs have to do "be nice" in fear of racist attacks.

TRUE. I accidentally implied that only middle easterners have those qualities.

ive been here almost nine times as long as you have. i would not say everybody is like that, there is a slight difference amongst the ethnicities if i might go as far to say that and how long they have been here plus the extent to which they embrace the city during the time that they have been here.
