That really seems off. I'm guessing it's because everyone else that didn't respond is still stuck in traffic and not accounted for.

Since they have Long Island, NY separate from NY,NY... I assume that they are saying ~35 mins if you live in Manhattan and work in Manhattan. That seems about right. They aren't counting all the commuters from upstate or LI (including Bklyn & Queens) commuting into Manhattan under the NY,NY category.

Most of the people I work with live close to an hour away including one who lives in west Virginia, one in PA and on e way south near Richmond. I live in the DC area. I am the second closest at 30 mins. I get to work a 5:30 AM and leave at 2 PM so that helps.

This seems to be correct from my reading of the report. Several areas that are well within regular commute basin from NYC are counted separately (Long Island, CT, NJ, etc) and those commutes into the city are longer.

Soon to be much longer when NJT strikes. :D

Wow, I can be from my house to the office in 3 or 4 minutes. I don't live in the big city, but I would hate being in my car for that long each day.

its 52 miles of highway, with no traffic, its rather cathartic

I could see that once or twice a month. But that's over 100 miles a day. 500 miles a week. Deer. Construction. Weather. Uhg. Lots of stuff to screw up your drive. That's a lot of miles daily.

Mine is about 35 miles one way with heavy traffic in both directions. Takes me about 50 minutes minimum... :(

Typical commute traffic.
