Whats sad is how much the police make on Long Island. The average salary of a Nassau County (one directly east of Queens) last year was $103k when you include overtime pay. Suffolk County (East again, includes the Hamptons) is basically the same. And I doubt they have to put up with nearly half the crap NYC cops do.

I'd say the D-day guys put up with a bit more... Give the army officers way more money too.

Teachers put up a lot, let's give them a 50% raise...

Let's give everyone a raise... Print up some more money...

$103K??? That's double the top pay most cops in the US get! Where did you get that number?

Sheesh.
Print up some more money...
States can't but when the feds print more money it leads to inflation, raising prices for all of us. That would negate the raise.

Don't forget our most important servants: politicians. They work so hard to blow our cash, they all deserve a juicy raise!

Guess I didn't put enough sarcasm in my first post :)

That's outrageous.... while I think all cops should make more than they do, I think the big city cops are the ones who deserve it more.

That's even more than the overpaid Council Rock school teachers make in this state.

Yup, its quite sad how a NYPD officer will make $50,000 after 5 years, yet a Nassau or Suffolk police officer will be making about $100k after 5 years. And the most I see the Nassau/Suffolk guys doing is sitting in their cars on the highways and giving out tickets.

Wow, those are some high paid cops! It said the average base pay for a cop coming out of the academy is $72,000! Screw this IT crap in the Silicon Valley, I think I'm going to move to Long Island and become a cop.

Are you serious? What kind of teachers? If you mean K-12, I hope you are joking. Our teachers start at about $30,000 - $40,000. Alot of them aren't even certified to teach. I have had serious problems with my teachers over the years, and it hasn't been this one area because I have moved all over. I guess I expect more from them, but time after time I would ask a question on the subject (assuming they decided to teach that day) and they wouldn't have a clue as to what the answer may be. I took the hardest classes I could. I was in gifted from 2nd-12th grade. They most certainly did not earn the little money they had.

With a joke degree and 3 months off every year, how can you justify $75K?

Well the higher pay would entice more people to teach. Thus you can up the requirements to be a teacher.

I guess you never had to walk a beat in the Belle Terre ghetto, eh?

Or babysit really rich people in the Hamptons.

Yeah yeah, there are bad parts of Eastern LI. Just not nearly as many as NYC.

I was just kidding you, man.

If you don't think Belle Terre is dangerous, how about Nissequoge or Head of the Harbor?
