NYC: Anything happening in 'the city' last week of July ?

I will be staying in Manhattan (The Villiage to be exact) for the last week of July.

This will be my first big trip to New York...will anything extra exciting be going on that I should check out ?

Damn you picked a hot time to come to the city, hopefully it's not too humid that week. I'm sure there will be something going on. Too bad the Yanks aren't in town, every sports fan should go to Yankee Stadium. And I don't even like the Yanks! (I'm a Mariner fan). You'll find plenty to do.
