So aperently NY schools are loosing 1.24 billion dollars of funding in 2004. Not only high schools but colleges as well. SUNY schools tuition will raise $1200 per person. My local high school is going to loose $400,000 dollars of funding and since they are locking in the STAR the town can only increase school tax by 1.9% which is a pittence.

NY has had one of the best education systems in the US and now they are going to put 100's maybe 1000's of teachers out of jobs. we will prabably loose 6-8 teachers.

I think schools across the nation are facing budget issues. Just a few days ago there was a meeting about the HS I go to because they are losing $267,000 and have to cut back on sports and stuff. Of course what follows is everyone saying how important golf is and needs to be kept or something along those lines.

well my schools has 125 per grade. larger schools with about 500 kids per grade will be facing even more cuts. many schools will face over a million dollar budget cut

The entire US education system is a dysfunctional money pit. I wish the Feds would leave it to the states to deal with. Maybe provide some funding but nothing like they do today. All the money goes to "administrative" jobs and not to the teachers. And the teachers are all represented by a crooked teachers union. :(

To bad we all aren't rich enough to send our kids to private schools..

On who?

Why do people with no kids have to pay to send your kids to school?
You already get a tax credit for your kids and they're a talking about giving families a tax cut on top of that.

What about us single people? Thats bull!

They should get rid of the child tax credit and give it to schools.
I dont mind paying taxes for sending children to school (they're the future) but dont push it, I need to eat too.

They should make teachers saleries tax free, then they could lower their pay and hire more teachers.

peace
