NY Police and law that says having condoms on you is proof of prostitution

New York had these zone laws also a while back where it said no females were allowed to walk or be in, in an effort to combat prostitution they said. Apparently all it did was target poor women trying to get to and from work and home. I can't remember, but I think that one case went to trial and the lady won. She was targeted by police for simply walking to the bus (which was in that zone area). Anyway they have for some time been using the "condoms" as proof of prostitution and I have been amazed that this law could be legal without some serious court challenge. Shit, when I was younger I always kept 2 or 3 condoms in my back pocket..lol But I imagine they are targeting mostly women and doing searches of their purses.

NY bill would bar condoms as proof of prostitution (police fight the new bill)

Our government is full of stupidity sometimes. Homosexuals and gays are the proving of it

By "our government," you mean the Russian government, right? That only makes sense because you are posting from Russia. Hopefully you can figure out that this thread is about NY - a place in the United States. -Admin DrPizza

What a woman decides to do with her body and is between consenting adults is none of our business.

Restricting prostitution is a war on women and reduces a womans earning capability.

I am sure the police will successfully catch some prostitutes but you cannot infringe on all other womens rights because a few are turning tricks. Besides with the internet i would assume street walking is declining, at least i hope it is.

The bigger question is, why on earth would you want to scare prostitutes from using condoms? I mean, they are going to do what they do regardless, and scaring them into unsafe practices is just insane. But honestly this seems pretty sexist to me, how many men do they stop and frisk and go through their pockets and wallets for condoms? LOL

What's funny is the government hands out condoms for free. Then the same government arrest them for prostitution for having condoms!

i agree with oldgamer. why the fuck would you want to scare prostitutes away from using condoms!?

Well put Texashiker. Why are the liberals in NYC trying to tell women what to do with their bodies?

Just so we are all on the same page, is him posting from Russia a guess, or is this a new Anandtech Forums privacy policy where it's OK for admins to publicly disclose details of a member's posting location in order to call a member out?

Another wrong-headed, simplistic, patronizing post from one of our most deeply confused posters.

I don't know where he is from, but it's important that user privacy is respected, and if it's not going to be, that should be outlined upfront.
What if someone from Russia posted anti-Putin message, and admins posted that person's location here? You'd still not consider it a problem?

I am sorry but do you know as a fact this person in another thread did not already mention where they are from??

Editing another member's post is acting as admin, not a discussion participant. So this is an admin revealing a user's posting location in an edit, not another member quoting a user's own post regarding his own location in a course of normal discussion.
Also, where did angelina87 mention he/she is from Russia? Please provide link.

This is stupid however keep in mind its not illegal to have a bunch of condoms on you, condoms can be used as evidence for prostitution. So walking down the street with a box of condoms is not really the issue. Stopping traffic, talking to stopped cars in traffic, transferring money and having a bunch of condoms on you while you look like a prostitute is a bad idea.
Prostitution should be legal and taxed

I don't have any issues with admins outing a member that is (poorly) pretending to be from somewhere they are not.

We also had a certain TEA Party firebrand who was outed as posting from Canada. Which is hilarious, and another "call out" I had no issue with.

That was great a guy complaining about Obamacare/ACA then finding out he lives in CANADA!

If AT Forums wants to set the privacy standard as "whatever Theb doesn't have issues with or finds hilarious," that's fine. But they should be upfront about it in their privacy policy, so people are aware of it when they post.
