AWESOME!!!

New York nuclear power plant is leaking small amount of radioactive coolant

BUCHANAN, New York (AP) - Radioactive coolant is leaking from a steam generator of the Indian Point nuclear plant, but not enough to endanger anyone or slow down the plant, officials said.

Plant owner Entergy Corp. reported that sensors detected radioactivity - about a tenth of an ounce (2.8 grams) a day - in what is supposed to be the clean water that is converted to steam.

``It's very small. It's being monitored. There's no danger,'' Entergy spokesman Larry Gottlieb said Thursday.

Company vice president Fred Dacino noted the allowable limit of radioactivity is 1,000 times as much.

The leak comes two years after the worst accident in the plant's history, when a tube in the steam generator burst, spilling radioactive coolant and sending a tiny amount of radioactive steam into the atmosphere.

Amid fears of a terrorist attack, critics have increased pressure to shut down the plant 35 miles (55 kilometers) north of New York City. On Thursday, Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano announced a draft plan to distribute potassium iodide pills that help fight radiation sickness to schools and other institutions.

There is no danger. Baldness is natural. Blood in your stool is not being caused by this radioactivity. It is nature's way of telling you to eat more fiber. Three-eyed fish are superior to normal fish. It's called evolution.

nice, my house is like 15 minute from there, who needs terrorists to blow up power plants when they can do it themselves, that place has been a mess since they built it, it should be shut down before there's a really big problem

Aside from your "not in my neighborhood" paranoia, what specific issues exist? I haven't heard of too many radioactive clouds in Westchester, although "Mutant High" in X-men was located there...
