NY Auto Show thoughts

Did you get to check out the New York Auto Show yet this year? My friend took pics so I will have to wait to post any if anybody is interested, but I came away with some random food for thought:

  • Twins (models) dressed in white - the star of the Fiat display. I barely recognized the cars, but this was really awesome. People were gawking and taking pictures of the models, and I don't think any cared about these cars at all. :awe:
  • The updated Lexus LS rear end looks worse. Much worse.
  • New Sonata looks better in person than in pictures.
  • Honda Accord Crosstour looks better than the Accord Sedan, until you see the back of it. I've seen a few on the road and they look surprisingly decent.
  • LF-A is hotter in person than pictures.
  • The BMW M3 is still a star of the crowd - there was probably more people waiting to sit in one than any other car.
  • The Miata is way too happy to take seriously.
  • The Audi S5 is pristine on the outside, but the interior is quite a let-down. Quality was only OK in some aspects (plasticky handles) but the center console and gauges do not fit the sleek exterior at all. Still my favorite overall car in design. It was too bad the RS5 didn't make it to the show.
  • The Cadillac CTS-V Coupe may give the Audi S5 a run for its money in the different but still awesome looking department. This thing is going to look amazing on the road.
  • I want a GT-R.
  • I hate Infiniti styling. Aside from the G-Coupe, which I think looks pretty good overall, the rest just looks terrible.
  • Toyotas all looked like toasters. Nothing offensive, but there was nothing interesting either.
  • BMW 1 series looks like shit, as usual. I also noticed the headlights of the 135i are cheap ass reflectors. If they can't even bother to put on some decent projectors...
  • Acura makes one good looking car. And it's a freaking Honda Accord from Europe. Please make a V6 SH-AWD Acura TSX with an slight engine upgrade (maybe the one from the TL).
  • The Lotus Evora is sick. Absolutely sick in person. Aside from its high price tag, the engine still brings the car down a bit in person. It's hard to get over a regular old 2GR-FE in such a beautiful body.
  • People are blatantly asses - there was a huge line to get in in the morning and about 10-15% just blatantly cut everyone else.

That's it for now?

Don't keep the pics to yourself, you stingy bastard. ^_^

The NYC autoshow for parking garages are an amazing event. Our guys raked in tons of money in tips. I used to clear out a floor to drive all the exotics that showed up. We would turn away a lot of the really expensive stuff simply due to our floor space and liabilty... but I did park a vantage, GTC, and 360 on the main floor before the other customers got touchy feely and I had to move them upstairs.

Back in those days, I used to think only poor people went to auto shows to sit in the fancy cars. Surprisingly a lot of wealthy people go also.
