NWN2: What's my bottleneck?

Ok, I just picked up NWN2 and naturally I want to play at my flat panel's native res (1280x1024). I can do this at it's lowest detail setting but it's a bit jumpier than I'd like.

So, I figured it's time for an upgrade. Highlights of my current build are:

Sempron 64 3400+
1.5GB DDR
Geforce 6600GT (AGP Version)

Is it likely my video card or my processor holding me back? I looked at upgrading the whole system but I've got a lot of legacy hold over stuff, so a complete upgrade to an X2 4200, 2gb DDR2, and a 7600GT is around $600 after shipping.

So, I looked into it and figured I could get a new Socket 754 mobo with a PCI-Ex16 slot and a Geforce 7900GS for right at $250. Think this would solve my "jumpy" problem?

Thanks.

See the NWN2 thread in Software for tuning suggestions, you might not need anything.

If not, I haven't seen any CPU scaling benchmarks to say one way or the other whether the 3400+ is fast enough for this game and the 7900GS. You might need to move up to socket 939 and an A64 3500+ - 3700+ instead and sell the sempron.

Hey MGMorden, absolutely EVERYONE is having troubles running NWN2. My rig is in my sig, and even with this setup I play at 1024*768, High Detail, and it is quite choppy when turning the camera. (The graphics really arent that great, either)

If you were to upgrade to a 7900 GS, you would still have lots of chop (though I'm sure you could play at higher details) Its not really your system holding you back, its not that bad, its just the game doesnt run well on any setup (If you look on NWN forums, people with 2 x1950xtx's in crossfire are complaining about how it runs)

Its a good game, but dont expect good graphics or good performance.
