nwlink protocol and nic setup ?

Hi,

It has been a while that I've used old IPX protocol(so I forgot how to set up).
Anyway, my mom's small business has this database called "advantage database server", which seems to use nwlink protocol.

So she has one machine that works as a database server and a client, and the other machine works only as a client to access the database. Both machines are XP and has onboard lan ports and external pci nics.

My mom is not using onboard lan ports at all, and just uses pci nics. When I try to use onboard lan ports, the database client cannot access the data on the database server. I can still browse all the files in the server machine from the client machine, but database program cannot.

There is no sign of nic mac address authentication. The part I dont understand or may have forgotten is that how can a specific nic have to be used to access database. This means I cannot just by any NIC card, if one is broken. Maybe I have to install special driver, like old netware, in order to use onboard lan port ? I dont know. Any idea ?
Thanks for reading.

That's all dependent on the application itself, IPX is just a protocol like TCP/IP. If the database server requires all traffic come from specific set of addresses then you need to track those addresses regardless of the protocol being used.

You should really be talking to whomever supports the database software and probably asking why they still use IPX, when they're moving their software into the current century and even probably looking for a migration path to something better.
