NVMe PCIe SSD with Intel 5520 chipset?

Just want to verify my understanding on this. Looking at a Plextor M8pe for a new ZIL in my SAN which is running an Intel 5520 based board. My understanding is that UEFI is not required if you are not booting off the drive, is that correct? I realize I'm limited to PCIe 2.0 bandwidth but that's still vastly improved over the SATA3 of my current failing drive.

Any reason this wouldn't work?

It will work, but when you install, you'll probably want to be proactive and disable the OPROM in the slot you're going to put it in. Other than that, as long as the Distro you're using has NVMe support you should be good. 🙂
