NVmax and GTU (Geforce Tweak Utility)? Which one is better?

I know that some of you use these proggies. So which one do you like better? I heard that NVmax is shareware while GTU is freeware, does that make one better than the other? In general, which is easiest to use.

How about this solution: Instead of loading a memory resident program, especially freeware, you can creat a "Clock Frequency" tab right in Windows Display Panel by editing windows registry. It's easier than it sounds. Here's the link. Though article was published in Geforce 2 days, this works on current Geforce products:

Using The NWTweak Registry Hack

im well aware of the "coolbits" hack, and ive used on every driver set that I can. I want to be able to access the additional D3D and opengl settings. I could care less for the overclocking tab, and yes I already have Vsync disabled. Thanks though. :) Anyone else?

Either one is good. I use GTU myself cause it has a little more settings to play with. You may also wanna look at Rivatuner.

Both are currently free to get at the moment.

Personally I use NVmax compared to the GTU as NVmax was the better program a while ago. GTU has a few extra options for AGP tweakability on some motherboards for example, but NVmax I think is the better all rounder for cards including the non-Geforce ones.

GTU offers more tweaking options. I personally prefer Rivatuner. It has a pretty nice interface, and its registry tweaking section is really specific and lets you control almost everything; it does currently lack a full explanation of what each of the tweaks actually does.

Hmm, that link says Rivatuner only works on the 21.xx Dets and doesnt state any support for higher versions. I use Dets 22.50 btw. Im gonna try nvmax and see how it goes. I tried GTU and didnt like it that much. While it had many options, I think it still needs some polishing, but I'm picky like that . :)

update: just got done installing nvmax, and im impressed. the layout and design is very polished. while the help files need some work, overall, it's look to be pretty solid tweaker.

I prefer NVmax over anyother prog, it has the most options etc, the only prob atm is the three second delay at the start (preventing a superfast switch from one to the other settings)

I have tried GTU on my new system but the clocks revert to default at startup.
Sometimes I can't get them to stay even in the same Windows session.
This is an AK31A / Durron 700 at 1000 / Win2K system.

I have both oc boxes checked, I clicked the apply overclock button, and I went to the other screen and clicked the Save Overclocked Data at the bottom.

It seems to work on my son's K63 / Win98 system but not mine.

Any suggestions?

NVMax is not memory resident - it updates the registry entries as you modify the values. If you close the program the modifications stay.

I use NVMax and I'm going to see if I can disable Direct3D vsync in the 2311 drivers tonight. nVidia's driver setting is ignored.

I've been using Rivatuner on 23.11 Dets with no problems.

NvMAX didnt work too well for me, little things that didnt work here and there, and the most noticeable thing is that as soon as I tried to overclock my card using it, it would think my card was running at something like 16 GHz with 47 GHz memory or something along those lines.
I wish! :D

As I mentioned above, GTU would not hold the overclocked setings on startup with my system. I am also not sure that it realy raised the clock speeds even in the same session of windows. I saw very little increase in my 3dMark 2000 scores. Yes that is version 2000, let us be clear about that.

When I installed NVMax and raised my GF2-GTS-V to [CORE - 210] & [MEM - 325] my scores went from 3090 up to 7011.
Keep in mind that this is with 3dMark 2000, not 2001, but it did give me a 44% increase.

I am going to load 3dMark 2001 tonight and run the test again, at default and at 210/325, so that I can get scores that will compare to those now being posted.
