nVidias new release 80 drivers.

With nVidias new release 80 drivers will a 6800gt pcie work with a 6800gs pcie in sli mode?

Or do I need another GT?

Proabably another 6800gt, cause I know nvidia just came out to support muti brands of the same Card only, not differant cards, cause they have differant set GPUs

Yeah that's a bit confusing, I'm guessing the 6800GT would only use 12 pipes than.

Like the memory would default to the lower card.

Note: NVIDIA recommends that SLI customers, whenever possible, purchase graphics cards with matching memory sizes. When dissimilar memory sizes are enabled to work together using Coolbits (value set to 18), the effective memory size for each card becomes the smaller of the two memory sizes.

As you see here, You cannot take a 7800GT and a 7800GTX for SLI mode. Isn't the 7800GT the same as a 7800GTX with 4 less pipes? If that's the case then a 6800GT will NOT work with a 6800GS (same principle being 4 less pipes) in SLI.

Check out your own quote where it specifically says a 7800gt cannot work with a 7800gtx. That's your answer. A GS cannot work with a GT.

Have to try and track down a compatible 6800 gt, they seem to be hard to find with the GS out.

The PCIe 6800GS can't be unlocked, iirc it is a 12pipe part period, no disabled pipes present to begin with. The AGP version unlocks because it is just a nv40, of course some have bad pipes and VS so unlocking doesn't get you a 6800GT/U, but others do.

Just a suggestion, you might find it easier to buy a GS, sell your GT, and then buy another GS. Thats just what I would do. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Your first quote states you can't mix a 7800gt and a 7800gtx (same 7800 GPU), what makes you think a 6800gt and 6800gs would work😕

Yeah, but two GT's are better than 2 GS's and I already have one that isn't even a year old yet.

You will need a pair of truly exceptional 6800GTs to beat SLI'd 6800GS's when both SLI setups are max stable overclocked.
