According to current plans, Nvidia plans to introduce its Geforce 9 series high end part codenamed G100 around march 2008. Jump ahead to read the news post.

Advanced Micro Devices revealed during its Analyst Day that it has no plans to release a new family of graphics processing units (GPUs) in 2008, as planned. The decision seems to support the general plan to cut capital expenditures in order to return to profitability, but pose a lot of threat to performance of the firm?s graphics product group, the former ATI Technologies.

Interesting. I will probably pick up one of those mainstream cards, as long as they are a lot more powerful than current cards. I don't think I will get the 9800GTX, cards carrying the GTX suffix are almost never worth it.....Now the GTS, that's where it is at for high end value!

Sucks that my 8800GT's step-up period will be over in mid-February.

Hopefully the dual-G92 card scheduled for January is a great performer and also comes at a <$400 price point, maybe dropping the G92 GTS down to $300~.

Watch out eBay scammers ... you may want to keep those Matrox G100 cards for a bit longer ...

Well bummer, my stepup period will end March 9th... and they seem to never release new hardware at the beggining of a month. Ah well, guess I'll have to stick with the G92 GTS for a while then :(

Faster than a current dual gpu setup isn't saying much - unless they picked a game that actually scales well. That said looks good and is about time for something better than a year ago.

So you want to believe one rumor site, but not the other? That doesnt make any sense.

From someone more credible than the inq or fud, Kyle from HardOCP;

Sometimes people are just full of BS. AMD is right on track with R700. What AMD is doing now that some ?journalists? don?t understand is that AMD is holding their cards a bit closer to the vest than is normally the case. Don?t assume since AMD is not commenting on future products that they do not even exist.

Interestingly enough, two things have come to pass that VP of Developer Relations at NVIDIA, Roy Taylor, assured me would never happen. First that AMD would never keep the ?ATI? branding, which of course has come to pass for the simple reason of Intel still using ATI technologies. Second that, ?R700 will never be made.? Roy is wrong on that one too. I wonder how many developers he related that to in the last year that will now be seeing an install base with a different landscape?

If you don?t see R700 this next year, I will paint the wheels on my truck pink, drive around Texas wearing a tutu, and take pictures for all of you to see.

LOL, that would almost be worth not getting an R700 just to see that. Almost.

He did edit it, and put "If you don?t see R700 this next year". Whatever that means. In any case, it seems he strongly believes it is not delayed, nort forgotten, and really exists.

Probably just to clarify sometime in 2008 and not 2009 like the initial rumours indicated. Still, given AMD/ATI's recent track record with Barcelona/R600 that's a bet I wouldn't have made.

G100 looks interesting though, I'd expect something along the lines of everything on the G92 doubled on a single chip. And when they make blanket statements like "faster than SLI GTX" that typically means faster than the best-case scenario, which is pretty close to 2x performance in some games.

Those interested in high-end are probably better off passing on the GX2 part and waiting on G100 or getting 2x G92 now in SLI if they can't wait.

Aren't both links Fudzilla? Both the OP's and Zstream's?

I hope G100 is substantially faster than my single 8800 Ultra (i.e. 50% or more) and not be SLI based.

Fudzilla = least reliable source of information... if its on fudzilla you might as well have just made it up yourself with no evidence and hope its right.
Faud = the most unreliable poster in fudzilla...

In conclusion. This report comes from the most unreliable known source on the internet...

BTW, there will never be a G100... nvidia changed their chip codes already...G92 is the last of the old scheme... the next ones will be labeled G9E and the like. (9 = series, E = level, aka, enthusiast, mid-range, etc...)

Correction:

D8M
D8P

D9M
D9P
D9E

That is the naming scheme of the upcoming chips.

Prolly not. You need GPUs that are near-equal for it to be effective, unless they grow a brain and go tile-based like that PowerVR company tried to do.
