of late, I have a problem...

My config is

ASUS VM CSM mobo
1 GB Transcend RAM DDR1
Samsung 17"TFT monitor
Onboard nVidia 6150 memory
400 W cabinet

My card recently failed the directdraw and direct3D tests.. I have installed the latest drivers and have Win XP Pro. The video work fine when the direct draw and direct3D are disabled. But when I enable them the video and any heavy graphics gets distorted. I tried re-installing the OS and also tried Linux Mint with glx enabled.. even there whenever the nvidia card is put to use, the display goes haywire.
Is the prob with my onboard graphics ( a hardware prob ?) what am I supposed to do now ?
Also I didn't have a proper power connection for a brief period, that time it was without an earth for the power supply to the system. Could tht be the problem?

Suggest some solution for this..

Onboard chips can develop problems. They are really cheaply made, and quality isn't terribly good on the things, so you shouldn't expect a lot from them. Just give in and put a low-cost, real card in the PCI-e slot!

It is possible that your motherboard was damaged or that it is simply defective, though i am not specifically aware of there being any quality issues with 6150 chipsets. If your onboard graphics chip is damaged, it is possible that other elements of your motherboard may be damaged as well (and may begin to fail in the near or far future).

If it's still covered by warranty, I'd investigate the possibility of doing an RMA on the motherboard, though you need to be sure that your power supply issue hasn't caused any damage to your system before you blame the problem on faulty components.

When I had problems like that it turned out to be a ram problem.

Thats whats I werre going to suggest. Run memtest since the onboard graphics uses system RAM and if the system RAM is damaged it might very well artifact on you.

RMA means you return the motherboard to wherever you bought it, or to the producer of the motherboard, and have it a) fixed or b) replaced.

I'd suggest memory.. It's more likely his ram is defective than a defective 6150...

(and as for the "Onboard chips can develop problems. They are really cheaply made, and quality isn't terribly good on the things".. where the hell did you make that up from? Their quality is just as good as any other chip...)

hey guys i did a memtest86+ the whole night and it ran for about 27 passes and it reported NO error.. I ran the memtest with Linux Mint cassandra.. does that mean my ram is fine and the prob is with the motherboard..?

If it passed memtest that many times, it probably isn't your RAM. Flashing the BIOS might help, so . . . give it a shot.
