Nvidia Video Driver Update Issue

I recently upgraded from the Nvidia Omega Drivers 1.6693 (Forceware 66.93) to the Official Nvidia 71.89 Drivers due to some blue screen crashing issues when minimizing and exiting certain games. But now that I have done this my video stutters and I get occasional menu stuttering too...

I have:
BFG Nvidia Geforce 6800 OC
DFI Nforce3 UT 250GB Motherboard
Windows XP Pro

I used driver cleaner after in safe mode after I uninstalled the drivers.
Thank you for all advice

You were using hacked drivers (the Omegas) and it's possible they left something behind when you installed the NVidia drivers.

Did you run the uninstaller for the Omegas first in Add/Remove Programs? If not, you could use system restore to go back before you installed the new drivers, properly remove the Omegas then install the new drivers.

There's also an NVidia driver cleanup tool out there that completely removes all traces of the old drivers. Do a google search for it.

Hope this helps...

Well... I have disabled Fast Write in the BIOS after reading a little about some other issues. All is well. Any performance differences when Fast Write is disabled?

I have had issues with fastwrite as well on some systems. The performance difference is notally negligable - MAYBE 2 or 3 fps in a modern game. If it's stable, leave it off.
