NVIDIA & TSMC Ship One-Billionth GeForce Graphics Processor

As i'm not privy to sales of electronics companies, is that alot?

Well there are 6.9 billion people on the planet. So 1 billion GPU sales is a lot considering prob. half the world can't afford a computer.

Public, NASDAQ:NVDA - Jan 29, 1999 --> Jan 13, 2011
Stock appreciation: + 1,324.92%

Public, NYSE:AMD - Jan 29, 1999 --> Jan 13, 2011
Stock appreciation: - 23.39%

So ya, NV did well selling some chips glued to a plastic board. 😎

Not really. I'm sure the vast majority of those one billion have long since become obsolete and have either been recycled or are sitting in a landfill somewhere.

Everytime I see stores still selling GeForce FX 5200 cards I die a little on the inside. D:

Why i never hear about UMC any more?

TSMC represents 100% of the profits ever made in the CMOS pure-play foundry industry (no joke)...every other foundry company in existance has accomplished nothing more than losing money when it comes to their financials.

How many Nvidia GPUs have you owned?

7 or 8 myself.

2 3dfx cards and then I've been Nvidia ever since. Ti4200, 6600GT, 7800GTX, 8800GTS 320, 8800GTS 512, gtx260 216, and currently gtx465 and 9600m GT. So 8. In that same time span, I've owned 3 intel processors and 1 AMD processor.

who? (i am serious! who?)

It's cumulative since NV "invented" the GPU, so about 11.5 years total. It's a lot, but not a lot 😛

i never got that claim... maybe they ascribe to the Columbus school of thought in this regards (you know, "discover" habituated lands, "invent" preexisting technology, etc)

Or maybe they mean that because they bought out 3dfx they have claim to it?

I just got my first Nvidia GPU a little while ago. I've have 4 ATi, and 6? Intel ones before this.

Let's see...

Ti4200
MX4000
8800GT

Hmm, thought I had more nVidia than that. Nothing on the integrated end (yet). My ATI list is a bit longer.

7500M
X200
X300SE
X800XL
X1900XT
4850
5770
