Nvidia to release rel80 drivers today!

the Chase

Toms Hardware reports that the new drivers are being released today. They quote a nvidia spokesperson on features of the driver so I'm doing the bad thing of assuming nvidia has told Toms about the release today. They are not up on Nvidia's web site yet. Hmmm just in time for reviewers to use when comparing ATI cards to Nvidia's. This is getting good.🙂

(I would also venture to guess that ATI might release their CAT 6.0 drivers tomorrow.)

They just released the Cat 5.9's the other day. Also the way The cats work it should be CAT 5.10 if they were to release a new driver.

Well I'm definitely not surprised, nVidia had time to wait and wait and perfect things in the background while ATI did whatever they're doing that's taking sooooooo long to release the R520, hey I'm not complaining at all tho, I'm eager to see how much these new drivers will benefit my 7800GT 😛

ironic- just the day before big ATI launch

That's uh, kinda cool, but i'm not sure launching new driver software is going to be much of a distraction from a new retail product from their biggest competitor. 😉

Theoretically if these drivers improved the overall speed for the GTX leaving the X1800XT in the dust.

with a dual core proc, the new drivers give a 70% increase in performance.

I doubt we will get that kind of boost. Maybe one application in one specific instance will get that but I would imagine we will get more modest boosts but I will certainly download them. I also think the X1800XT will not be dusted but will be on par. Should be interesting, LOL

Still waiting. 6800GT and x2 here. Not that I really need the increased performance playing on 1280/1024.

No ironic but a marketing tactic.

You can bet tomorrow when we see the benchies Nvidia's new drivers will be used and whatever they did will be noted by the increase in performance.

They did this when the 8500 came out. Released a new driver version and smoked the 8500. Took ATI months to catch up and by then the GF4 was out and it wasnt a contest.

You wouldn't would you, but anything helps, and if the improvement is even a quarter of the boost Nvidia has been spewing as of late. The what may have been a close competition the later end of this round may have just been turned into a route.

As a 7800gt owner i would love for that to be true but come on, 70% increase? I seriously doubt that, but hey, I sure as hell hope its true.

The beta drivers sure as hell haven't given me a 70% increase.. if they can squeeze that out of the release drivers, I'm all for it - I would love for it to happen, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Well as i have noted in my Farcry shadow problem thread the leaked 81.82s don't fix the shadow IQ problem (and damn it's nasty :|) for me in Farcry with my 6600GT...

Hey, Have you tried the 64bit patch for Far Cry, with that installed it would crash to desktop on my computer.

As noted above, NVidia has pulled this rabbit out of the hat before. I makes me wonder if they intentionally held back on performance of their drivers just for this reason. Note, I am talking about performance, not additions to the drivers like support for dual core or ending restrictions on SLI compatibility.
