hey guys im current using a p67 and pretty happy but i was wondering, how does nvidia synergy compare to z68? because i know synergy is able to turn off the GPU to save energy but can the z68 do so too?

the reason this is important is because i want to run a gtx580 but then my electricity'd go through the roof ._.

used to not be a problem cuz i lived next to a power station but not anymore.

Certain z68 boards will be licensed with Lucidlogic Virtu technology which will do very similar to Nvidia Synergy. Which is pretty much why Nvidia is making Synergy free.

I believe you would have to switch to a Z68 or H6* mobo anyway if you wanted to use Synergy.

Z68 does by itself not support anything related to switchable graphics. It just adds support for the integrated GPU, which is missing in P67. Neither technologies will be supported with P67, as Dark Shroud pointed out.

Even with a Z68, H67 or Q67 board the power usage isn't necessarily the same as running on just the integrated GPU, even if the discrete GPU is idling:

It seems they have some issues to work out. How nVidia will fare here is anyone's guess at this point, but they created the cards so they should be able to power them down.
