I just picked up this 460 GTX..it's "superclocked" but i'd like to push it a bit more.

What software can I use? I haven't done OC on video cards since the Txx era.

I have heard the word reference card thrown around, how can I tell if mine is a reference card or not?

Since it's "superclocked", it's not reference. :)

"Reference" refers to the standard part that serves as kind of a baseline. IDR exact clocks for the GTX 460/768mb, but it's probably 6xx mhz core and 3600mhz memory.

So, since your card is "superclocked", EVGA has decided to go beyond the "reference" clocks. A good move, IMO, because the GTX 460's are known for their overclocking prowess.

I've gotten very tangible gains OC'ing my brother's GTX 460. Not just for benchmarking; I mean over a 20% improvement in framerates, both average and minimum. Helps a lot in Crysis: Warhead.

I have the same card OP, use MSI afterburner card. Most of the EVGA are around 850core oc. Thats what mine is at, i could go more but thats just the standard one people go up to right away that works for most of the cards.

On average, the 1 GB version is ~ 10% faster than the 768 MB model.

I would go for the 1 GB version, especially if you intend to game at resolutions over 1680x1050.

BTW, looking quickly at Newegg, I have no idea if the "Superclocked" editions mean anything in terms of hardware. The photos look like some SC models have the same coolers as standard models; which may mean that you could attain the same overclock on the $170 "regular" GTX 460-768 as the $190 Superclocked model.

Yeah, I think 850 core is a "standard good overclock". The MSI GTX 460 in my brother's machine made it to 860 with a voltage bump. It passed 3DMark @ 900mhz, but failed during 99 consecutive benchmark runs of Crysis:Warhead. ;)

I got my 460 1GB from 675 core to 875 on stock voltage and it was stable during furmark, 77c max temp 80% fan speed. It failed during crysis but that was quickly remedied by a small voltage bump. Probably could have had it stable at 900+ if I'd gotten the chance to experiment more with it.
Unfortunately my card became faulty after I'd had it for only 3 days (but that had nothing to do with the overclock).

Another vote for the 1gb version. Have mine running at 852 mhz core, havent touched the rest of the settings. fan speed is still automatic at 40% and its pretty cool and quiet.

im talking about the gtx460 1gb

mine is Gainward GLH factory overclocked to 800mhz on the core.
