The 6800 Ultra requires a minimum 480 PSU. But while using 2, will this require a monsterous PSU? I don't mean to start a flame topic if this question has been asked before.

Actually I think any good psu that can do >20A in the 12V would be sufficient for normal use. Don't always judge psus only by their watts

I don't think it requires a completely monstrous psu. In fact after purusing ASUS site, they have a Q&A on SLI and it clearly states that their reference system had an FX-55, 2x6800GTs, 1GB RAM, 2 hard drives, and 2 optical drives all running off of a 350W PSU. That is quite amazing to me, and I would actually get a little more than that if I were you. And you definetely don't want to skimp with some el cheapo model. I have a PCPC TurboCool Deluxe SLI and it comes in quite handy when connecting the two 6-pin connectors to my 6800GTs.

Edit: and like jim says it would be best to have dual 12V rails.

Thanx for the informer. I guess now that the extra fans on the PCI slots aren't used.

Its all good this question hasn't been asked much

THat spec was changed a long time ago. People have reports of running a 6800U in an SFF 250Watt PSU. 480 is definately not necessary.

For SLI i would definately get a minimum of a QUALITY 420Watt PSU. Dual Rails are nice but not necessary in most cases.

I would highly reccommend the OCZ Powerstream Series they are IMO the best PSU' on the market even beating PCP&C in some cases.

I guess now that the extra fans on the PCI slots aren't used.

Not sure as to what you mean by that now.

No extra fan, its just that the heatsink/fan on the card is so large it takes up the adjacent PCI slot.
