LOL. Way to moce the goalposts. Most people were saying that IF nV could release a 512 "Cuda core" version of the 480, it would consume even more power.

If they can do 20% better performance using less power at higher clocks, this fast...I think it will be a win for them.
How low do you want to set the bar? The factor quoted was 1.25x better performance/watt. Consider the power hog and efficiency disaster the GTX 480 was, that still isn't that great. But nevermind, as long as it's Green it doesn't matter, amirite? NVIDIA could do better than the 1.25x, or it couldn't. We'll find out tonight and I'll be checking out reviews.
Some of you guys must drive a prius. ;)
I would have thought that'd be up your alley, it's "green," isn't it? :D
Really? That sounds awefully low for a 4ghz i7 + a heavily OCd 5850. I kind of doubt that...
And yet you say this with video evidence right in front of you...

^ If you look at the join dates that are right before the 6XXX release, and read the posts, you can see just how prevalent guerilla marketing has become.

Some have stuck around to try and pee on the 580, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Ive long had a dream of putting my pc in another room than my keyboard/mouse/screen, by means of reeeeeaally long cables.

why?

Id love to have 0 db from the pc Im playing on. Unfortunately Ive never done that... my pc is right next to me and its loud enough to bug me (I have a AMD card).

To me the idle mode noise is the most important though... because like keys said, when you have speakers on with sounds ect it takes abit away from the fan noise (so it doesnt seem as bad).

Idle and movies... id love a pc that was 0 db.

I hope both amd and nvidia aim to make quieter cards, because I think overall it would please alot of people.

Not to worry, both nVidia and AMD realize that noise coming from your computer is a bad thing. I think everyone does. Some just don't want to admit it.

Omg, that better not be directed at me. And AMD to the best of my knowledge, has never sunk to that guerilla marketing on forums thing, unlike NV: http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=30729557&postcount=70

Way to make new forumers feel unwelcome and insulting everyone who may have joined at what you feel was the "wrong" time. Apparently there are "safe" times of the year to join and "unsafe" times.

I guess I should quote, not arrow. I was responding to your post, not pointing you out.

So you're certain Nvidia engages in guerilla online marketing yet AMD does not? How are you certain of this?

I am certain that AMD DOES engage in this silly form of forum/online marketing, and even more so than Nvidia. Joe public knows Nvidia more than they know AMD/ATI. AMD has more to gain, and are in a more desperate position from a marketing standpoint to engage in such sort of marketing tactics.

Someone needs to actually read before going off.

I said: "And AMD to the best of my knowledge" which somehow turned into a statement of certainty with you.

If you know of proof against AMD (rather than your own imagination), feel free to share it with us.

He was referring to my cite about NV's guerilla marketing. So do you think NV has guerilla marketers on forums, happy medium?

Edit: never mind, I guess you answered my question as I was writing it.

Okay so who among us do you reckon is an NV marketer or sponsored by one, happy medium?

What sort of "proof" could I possibly post on an online forum? Be logical for a minute. Links that show how AMD engages in this sort of marketing step-by-step? A link to a blog that claims to have "proof" of this? A comprehensive post-by-post analysis on the posting behavior of certain users that I feel are being paid for guerilla marketing?

I know because I have seen and heard first-hand proof with my own ears and eyes. Not any internet links or blog posts, but in real life. That is almost impossible to "prove" on an online forum.

Therefore, I really have nothing to prove. I just know what I know.

As a side note, I have seen proof of companies doing this not just on tech forums and in the tech industry, but in other industries as well.

This was before my time, but apparently one of the NV agents was on this very forum as Rollo or something before. It was in another thread a while back. I don't know the details but you could ask others about how he was outed.

As for AMD you are basically backing up your assertion with absolutely nothing but your own statements about seeing things with your eyes or whatever. I hope you realize how credible that is.

I can tell you this ,I've played both sides of the fence (red n green) and know for a fact of at least one from each side that are active members as we speak.
Please don't ask. I keep my word. ():)

With regards to credibility, I believe I already answered that in my post. There isn't a whole lot I can do on an online forum to be "credible".

I definitely believe this. I wouldn't ask anyways, as I already have a good idea of who is or isn't.

For those who don't like cooler and quieter.....the exit is that way---------------->

You tell me to do nothing.

This tech looks cool. NV may not have invented it, but any better cooler designs are always welcomed. When you are talking about a high-end card, who cares if it costs $10 more when it retails for $400? :)

Nice post OP, thanks for the link!

You want a more silent card...with less performance.
I wnat it the other way around.
You don't like that....you leave.

This place is downright hilarious now... 'in-the'know' newbies who already know everybody and everything with 50-60-70 posts made in few weeks - they are entertaining, I must admit though. ^_^
