What's this all about? I never heard of this before and it sort of sucks that I find out about it now when I have just ordered my 7800GT. :|

Perhaps some people have been running the Beta Drivers? I've heard of it with them.

That's exactly why i sold my 6800GT and use an X800XL now - because of the shimmer and shadow issues in several games. I tried 4 different drivers across 3 A64 chipsets with eh 6800GT. Same result - so i don't mind giving up SM 3.0 for better IQ.
That's probably because you had the Image Settings set to Quality, which is the default setting, instead of High Quality. Quality has more shimmering than the shimmering in ATI's filtering, but High Quality in Nvidia has much less shimmering than either of those. That's exactly why i sold my 6800GT and use an X800XL now - because of the shimmer and shadow issues in several games. I hope their new cards are better at it, but I doubt it.The "shimmer" is the band between mip map transitions. ATI cards have it too, to a lesser degree because they've been working with the same core features for years in their drivers.

You can't seriously expect someone to search for the word shimmer, then spend the next 4 hours of their life reading through all that crap, can you?Originally posted by: biostud
