I want to pass on to you folks one of the underhanded things Nvidia has just done. Over at Omega Corner (http://www.omegacorner.com/) there was a gentleman there that used to write good stable drivers for Nvidia products.

Well they harrassed him and a site that used to host his drivers so he said to heck with it and will no longer write drivers for their cards. It is a shame a big company like that picking on a guy who was just doing it cause he loved it and for the fun of it. Heck he wasnt even charging for them. sheesh.

You can read all about it on his website.

But as for me no more Nvidia

He did not WRITE the drivers, he used pieces from different releases and repackaged them.

Don't get me wrong I totally agree with you, but try doing that with Microsoft Sidewinder drivers and see if they do not come after you too. Its just not NVIDIA its ANY company.

I'm not saying that I like what nVidia did, but calling it underhanded is a bit naive.

ATI has given Omega full support on his driver tweaks. nVidia has been pulling crap like this for years.

One more reason why ATI rocks, they only request they made of him is to keep SmartGART. Which I just uninstall anyways. :)

I would think nVidia would appreciate the additional boost from better drivers, my Radeon 9000 recieved a 30fps boost from Omega's drivers. :D

Oh well, stinks to nVidia...

It is a function in the ATI drivers that detects bus settings, etc. On my computer it disabled Fast Write even though both my card and motherboard support it so I just uninstalled SmartGART with a utility you can download from ATI or Omega.

nVidia has been flexing its muscles for years now, pulling any reviews it doesn't like, etc.
This is just one more "coily steamer" for the pile.

I never could understand why they feel they need to resort to this kinda crap when they almost always have offered such excellent products.

What does this issue have to do with the ATI vs. NVidia struggle? Get back on topic.

If nVidia was getting too many tech support requests for Omega drivers, I think it's reasonable they'd want to shut him down. But I don't know if that's the case.

I'm curious as to how the Omega drivers are superior to ATi's, but I think I'll stick with the 3.5's for now, as they're working flawlessly. Maybe next update....

I'm not sure thats the case ( i may of course be wrong ) cuz nVidia has been bullying folks since way back during the nVidia vs. 3dfx wars, when ATI was a distant 3rd. Of course 3dfx did it's share of bullying back in the day as well. Maybe ATI has watched, learned and decided to take a different tact?
