PHEW ""An insider today confirmed that NVIDIA has no plans to offer an AGP version of the 7800 GTX currently, but it all depends on the demand. The reason is not because the 7800 GTX couldn?t be ported over to the AGP standard architecturally, but NVIDIA just doesn?t see the demand anymore. But if users are persuading enough, NVIDIA and its board partners would have no problems offering an AGP counterpart to the PCIe version""

Good, you dont need a crystal ball to know there is gonna be lots of agp users not yet on NF4 pci-e mobos wanting these cards like me for 1 :)

But if i had to buy the card i wouldnt buy agp this late in the game, its only as ive won my case with Trading Standards UK over Nvidia/Chaintech for non/partual working PvP.

I think it would be a stupid move to not offer AGP but if nVidia doesn't offer it I don't see why I ATI would do the same, it would seem to me that ATI would want to do the reverse, if they are the only ones offering highend AGP cards then they win that battle by default, but enough speculation we just need to wait and see.

It's not really nvidia's decision, is it? They don't make video cards, they make gpu's :)

We need to hear from evga, xfx, bfg, etc..

Nvidia make the reference cards, and lay down a very strict policy what card makers can or cant add.

They tell them the clock ranges they can use for each model and hense what name it will be tagged with, ie GT, Ultra, Ultra E

They told them no VIVO on the 6800 ultra.

So the card makers do what Nvidia tells them to, but i see at least VIVO is on the new 7800GTX (BFG anyhow).

Ive no doubt we aint seen back of AGP, they have said both YES and NO in past months to AGP, so wait and see, just PCI-E will now be 1st with AGP to follow later and if both ATI and Nvidia said they aint doing AGP anymore, one of them would ship some when the other didnt have any to get slice of market, so to be safe both best release AGP's.

you agp users should send an email to nv, ati and your fav mobo maker and let them know. a little grass roots action. won't take but a few minutes.

how so? My socket 939 Nforce 3 Ultra board runs the same CPUs as the Nforce4 boards

Even 1x 7800GTX was to much for the AMD 4800 X2 other day in review never mind 2 in SLI, so its not gonna matter what you got cpu wise, it will be the bottleneck, i have a 32bit barton mobile with FSB@250mhz(500mhz)DDR and 2.8gigs, that more PR than most 64bit cpus prob around (4200+) and anyway there isnt any gain so far in games (exept farcry with 64bit patch).

There is no reason you cant benifit from these new cards in AGP format.

Unfortunately.

Yes, because clearly the move to PCI Express is very worthwhile at the moment, as it offers many many advantages over AGP to users who only want a single card (which is the majority of users).
All those sticking with AGP are holding back progress.

Well, I said it before - If you're spending $600 on a graphics card, you most likely have, or are going to buy a PCI-E motherboard.

Nevertheless, I don't think I'm going to upgrade from AGP for a while, and whichever company makes their highend video cards in AGP is going to get my business. I am going to wait until the prices come back down to earth, however, and when games I want to play are released which can actually take advantage of such a GPU. If I'm not interested in the games that come out in the next year, and Call of Duty 2 runs great on my 6800GT, then I'll likely not upgrade until I have a reason to.

I already had this commented of the news but I say it again here:

Well, I think Nvidia still has a large number of users that will upgrade to the 7800gtx if a AGP version will be made.
There are millions of agp users, who don't have the latest technology, not for money, but because they don't want to waste time and money to upgrade just to get a non percetible gain in perfomance.
I own a Asus P4C800, P4 3.0 prescott watercooled oc to 4.1 ghz, ati x800xt PE and really, and I'm not in the mood to change board, buy a new cpu, reinstall the OS and all applications when at the moment I'm pleased with the perfomance I have.
If Nvidia makes a AGP version I will think in the possibility of upgrade my video card in a near future (as soon as the prices drop below $400).
If Nvidia and ATI do not make agp versions on the new video cards generation, then in 6 months from now I will think in replace my complete system.

There are people who recently bought boards with socket 939 with agp slot and can now upgrade to AMD 4xxx x2 and will be forced to upgrade the board if they want badly the 7800GTX.

And like any hardware, this video card in a few months will be replaced for a faster version, and prices will drop.

Lonyo, how are us agp users holding back progress, you can buy front/rear and 4 wheel drive cars, even though rear was 1st.

Some of us inc me on a 6800U have paid a lot of cash for top parts and wont go NF4 yet as its to new and not matured and even Windows XP64 doent have 100% compatability with all apps and drivers, i will change when i see fit, probaly around march 2006 when 2nd gen AMD 64bit cpus hit with ddr2 maybe.

I aint writing off £1000's just to keep hardware makers happy, i totally rebuild to new tech probably every 18months with some major upgrades inbetween, i aint rich.

I just want everyone to use what I'm using so that everyone on the internet will agree with me. Not-Rich people shouldn't be allowed to own computers.

AGP can't be better than PCIe. It's older. And ATi automatically loses for being Canadian.

Graphics cards are like Bacon. Canadians don't even know what it is.

Older is not better, older means you have to complain about kids and drink a fiber shake to fire one out.

Yeah, you heard me....ATi cards can't take an unassisted dump.

oh yeah? well nvidia's cards run so hot that i could fry that bacon on their heatsinks. what do you think about that?

i bet you don't even know what nationality nvidia is. probably iraqi. you hate freedom.

Maybe they're a little too hot because SM3.0 and 12k 3dmark05 benchies are scorching your wimpy SM2.0/6k X800 cards! Canadian permafrost also goes a long way towards keeping your GPUs cool.

Iraq is free now. We freed the sh*t out of them with our bombs. Canada hates freedom because they didn't help, and because they can't pronounce Os.

x800 cards? we have the fvcking x850xt pe. with a massive increase of 20 mhz on the core and the memory, and a grand spanking 0 more pipes, this thing will beat the everliving sh!t out of your sm3.whatever.

besides, we all know nvidia paid microsoft $$$ to get sm3.0 supported by directx anyways. so nvidia cheated! ati wins.
