Nvidia`s Titan outsold GTX 690 in just three months after release

I am also disappointed to AMD's response to all of this, they look like they are content with being bottom feeders. nVidia releases the Titan and en route to a upper/mid range refresh and AMD has no plans to respond except with price drops and game bundles.

AMD is constrained for cash because of their cpu division. If the graphics card division was still ATI or some other company you wouldn't see them being bottom feeders.

Yep, I understand this but it's still a stupid decision to let the competition rofl-stomp you. Right now, nVidia beats AMD in every metric except price/performance.

If Nvidia continues upward price trending with Maxwell, and even with the gtx700 series, they are going to drive traditional PC enthusiasts away to being exclusive next-gen console players. They surely have to realize there is more to the market than just AMD vs. Nvidia video cards. I for one haven't owned a console since the Sega Genesis, but if Maxwell's gtx880 is running on GK104's successor and costs more than $549 at release, see ya later PC gaming. The only reason I'll stick around is if Valve makes a compelling product with their steam box.

I'm still waiting on "official" pricing. Current rumors putting the gtx770 @ $399 are GOOD. If that rumor is true, then hopefully Nvidia stays with the typical $100-150 price gap they have used since Fermi first came out.
Well, we have an example of what happens in situations like this from observing the CPU market. First, we see a stagnation of performance increase and second we will see prices be reasonable for segments that are facing competition (low-mid end) and high prices for where there is no competition at all (high-end).

I remember seeing a chart that showed that Intel only lowered the prices of processors that had competitors from AMD, as soon as AMD's processors weren't an issue the price drops stopped and held steady.

If GTX 770 comes at $399 then it would actually be better from a price/perspective point of view compared to a AMD 7970 Ghz.

You seriously believe Nvidia didn't expect a cut down Tesla K20 to have potential buyers in the professional market? I read many previews and rumours about how the Titan was a cut down Tesla K20 and might appeal to professionals. On release many reviews mentioned how Titan had potential in the professional market as well as gamers with plenty of money.

This is not a surprise to anyone, most certainly not for Nvidia.

I believe nVidia expected a market for compute but believe they're surprised that Titan is doing this well.

good for nvidia for producing a card that satisfied a wide audience.

titan was never a gamer's card. titan is a compute card. hence most of the buyers are obviously not gamers.

as for a gamer's card. 690 out of the box performance is almost idiot proof and faster than titan. there should be no reasons why titan should surpass it, except compute reasons.

[big] if the gtx 780 comes out 10% slower than the titan and @ $600 , you have to wonder going forward how many they will sell .

The steam survey is giving us some perspectives, I guess. Since it is based on the gamer community it wouldn't include the sales for scientific community. According to the survey Titan reached to 0.06% share this April in three months. As a comparison HD7970 reached to 0.68% last December in one year even with its bundle sales. If we assume that Titan will increase its share at the same pace, the share will reach 0.24% in one year. Although I am not sure if the sales of Titan will continue this way due to a release of GTX780, I feel that Titan so far sells pretty well to gamers.

The survey also indicated that the share of GTX690 reached to 0.20% this April in one year. And Nvidia said that Titan exceeded its sales over GTX690 in three months. If we do a simple math, 0.20%-0.06%=0.14% of sales was supposed to go to the market other than gamer community (I assume here that all GTX690 sales went to gamer community since GTX690 is a gaming card).

It seems to me that many Titans were in fact purchased by scientists as well as gamers. However, the sales of Titans in gamer community is not small at all considering its high price tag.

Who cares whose buying them? Do we break down AMD sales based on gamers vs. bitcoin miners? 🙄

Not even 10 posts and it's gone from Titan vs 690 to nV vs AMD.

I'm trying to figure out how you turned his post into NVidia vs AMD Skurge....Hmm

I don't even know why you're surprised. This board is overrun with fanboy idiots.

Your response to his response over nothing seems kinds silly to me....Almost sounds like something a fanboy would say!

Being a poor mans Tesla drive Titans sales more than it's gaming abilities I'd think.
