Incredible leap in performance and drivers will improve.
I have no idea where that is coming from. What exactly is in your mind that shows an incredible leap in performance from the reviews? The only outliers in performance I've seen is a couple of DLSS examples in canned benchmarks and Wolfenstein 2. The vast majority of testing shows it on par with 1080ti for $150 more.

I think most of the heavy lifting is going to be on the developers' shoulders, when it comes to implementation anyway. The drivers will most likely be sound relatively early.

So, it took almost two years for NVIDIA to reach GTX1080Ti performance parity but with a bigger die size at +100 USD.
wtf
Yeah this is perplexing.. 2080 should have cost $499 and the 2080 Ti might not have been a great fit for a consumer. 2080 Ti should have been $699 to give an actual boost to this generation's $/fps.

Do we have any max OC 1080ti AIB vs 2080 max OC comparisons yet?

Edit: Looks like Gamer's Nexus did and the 1080TI is as fast or faster max OC to max OC. Hmmmm

First thing i watched is the Hardware Unboxed review. As others here have already said, just as expected 2080 and 2080Ti are both disappointments.

Also to reiterate as once Anandlal Shimpi once said "There's no such thing as a bad product, only a bad price". The quote fits these two RTX cards quite well.

Price-to-performance at launch, using TPU reviews for performance sources, manually calculating PP$ based on MSRPs:

103% = 770 price cut ($330)
100% = 980 ($550)
84% = 780 price cut ($500)
73% = 780 Ti ($700)
66% = 680 launch ($500)
64% = 780 launch ($650)

100% = 1080 FE ($700)
83% = 980 price cut ($500)
79% = 980 Ti ($650)
75% = 980 launch ($550)

122% = 1080 price cut MSRP ($500)
105% = 1080 Ti FE/MSRP ($700)
100% = 2080 FE ($800)
87% = 1080 FE launch ($700)

Performance sources from 4k:
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_980/26.html
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1080/26.html
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_RTX_2080_Founders_Edition/33.html

Alright, let's examine the 2080 Ti performance-per-dollar:

100% = 980 Ti ($650)
65% = 780 Ti ($700)

100% = 1080 Ti ($700)
58% = 980 Ti ($650)

123% = 1080 Ti ($700)
100% = 2080 Ti FE ($1200)

But Crisium, let's pretend they are Titans! Just use your imagination and suddenly it's a great buy!

Are you sure? Let's look at how much the first Titan's for each gen regressed in PP$:

118% = GTX 780 Ti ($700)
100% = Titan X ($1200)

103% = 980 Ti ($650)
100% = Titan X Pascal ($1200)

123% = 1080 Ti ($700)
100% = 2080 Ti FE (Titan in disguise!) ($1200)

Still the worst. Also has less VRAM than Titans.

The TweakTown review is a gem, looks like the Tomshardware editorial was just a sign of things to come. From the final thoughts section:
NVIDIA has released what is in my eyes, the best graphics card of all time. It's not just a faster card, it's a better card in virtually every single way. If we take the price out of the equation and look at it from purely a technological point of view, the Turing GPU architecture is a work of art.
I'm utterly blown away by the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. Totally blown away.
If NVIDIA had provided 5-10-15% more performance over the TITAN Xp in the RTX 2080 Ti, I would've been impressed. More performance at that level of the graphics card industry is unheard of.
NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is almost magic, it is as close to magic in a graphics card we've ever had. 4K performance is out of this f***ing world, there's no other way to explain it.
I'm an enthusiast, take my job away from TweakTown and I would've pre-ordered one of these cards on day one.

I should probably stop here, I fully recommend reading it, it's an eye opening work of art. The pricing move was just the beginning.

Looking at AIB vs AIB, Techpowerup has 1080 Ti FE at 89% of the Asus 2080 Strix OC @ 4k. In their earlier review of the 1080 Ti Strix OC, it was 100% vs 95% for the FE, making the 2080 Strix OC ~7% faster than the 1080 Ti Strix OC at 4k.

Wow. Just wow.

Is it possible to block an entire website with adblock? I don't want to accidentally ever go to that website again.

I can see why nVidia was being so dodgy about these cards since they were announced. The performance increase is pretty lack luster. Especially when the 2080 isn't even an increase in performance at all, just price.

The problem is, without competition, this is what happens. nVidia fan boys love to say how they wish AMD would die. Now lets imagine they did, all of these prices would be even higher than they are now.

This is getting weird. I came across that Tom's article and posted it just after it came out. Thought it had to be a one time thing. Seeing how everyone reacted in the media, you would think that people would have learned. Yet, here we are talking about how this card is amazing, not because of what it does, but what it could do some day maybe.

TIL that a piece of silicon can be a work of art.

Im sure NV will give them an RTX3080Ti for review next time, job well done ;)

ps. thanks for posting this, now both Toms and TweakTown are in black list.

Now I understand why they had to include the 2080ti in the RTX launch (instead of several months later). The 2080 on its own would have elicited serious derision from the tech press as the first card that offers no performance advantage over last gens card at similar price point (1080ti).

seeing the graphs of the 2080 ti, very nice, but it's like seeing the 1080 ti ones when it was launched, and that one cost a lot less back then... hmmm...
