I found one review that uses 1080 Ti AiB cards.

2080 is the same performance, higher price, reduced VRAM. Slightly better performance-per-watt it looks like. You really have to play a lot of DLSS games, like the results, and have faith that the 2080 has the strength needed for real time ray tracing in order to even consider a purchase.

I have no idea where that is coming from. What exactly is in your mind that shows an incredible leap in performance from the reviews? The only outliers in performance I've seen is a couple of DLSS examples in canned benchmarks and Wolfenstein 2. The vast majority of testing shows it on par with 1080ti for $150 more.

I think most of the heavy lifting is going to be on the developers' shoulders, when it comes to implementation anyway. The drivers will most likely be sound relatively early.

Yeah this is perplexing.. 2080 should have cost $499 and the 2080 Ti might not have been a great fit for a consumer. 2080 Ti should have been $699 to give an actual boost to this generation's $/fps.

First thing i watched is the Hardware Unboxed review. As others here have already said, just as expected 2080 and 2080Ti are both disappointments.

Also to reiterate as once Anandlal Shimpi once said "There's no such thing as a bad product, only a bad price". The quote fits these two RTX cards quite well.

Alright, let's examine the 2080 Ti performance-per-dollar:

100% = 980 Ti ($650)
65% = 780 Ti ($700)

100% = 1080 Ti ($700)
58% = 980 Ti ($650)

123% = 1080 Ti ($700)
100% = 2080 Ti FE ($1200)

But Crisium, let's pretend they are Titans! Just use your imagination and suddenly it's a great buy!

Are you sure? Let's look at how much the first Titan's for each gen regressed in PP$:

118% = GTX 780 Ti ($700)
100% = Titan X ($1200)

103% = 980 Ti ($650)
100% = Titan X Pascal ($1200)

123% = 1080 Ti ($700)
100% = 2080 Ti FE (Titan in disguise!) ($1200)

Still the worst. Also has less VRAM than Titans.

So we're back to driver will make everything better but with Nvidia this time. That's just hilarious. Going to be a lot of old posts about Vega getting edited. This launch is just a head scratcher all around.

Looking at AIB vs AIB, Techpowerup has 1080 Ti FE at 89% of the Asus 2080 Strix OC @ 4k. In their earlier review of the 1080 Ti Strix OC, it was 100% vs 95% for the FE, making the 2080 Strix OC ~7% faster than the 1080 Ti Strix OC at 4k.

I can see why nVidia was being so dodgy about these cards since they were announced. The performance increase is pretty lack luster. Especially when the 2080 isn't even an increase in performance at all, just price.

The problem is, without competition, this is what happens. nVidia fan boys love to say how they wish AMD would die. Now lets imagine they did, all of these prices would be even higher than they are now.

This is getting weird. I came across that Tom's article and posted it just after it came out. Thought it had to be a one time thing. Seeing how everyone reacted in the media, you would think that people would have learned. Yet, here we are talking about how this card is amazing, not because of what it does, but what it could do some day maybe.

Now I understand why they had to include the 2080ti in the RTX launch (instead of several months later). The 2080 on its own would have elicited serious derision from the tech press as the first card that offers no performance advantage over last gens card at similar price point (1080ti).
