My computer has problem with the nVidia ref driver I have a geforce2 GTS oem board. It cant take the driver, it only takes 16color with 640*480 resolution. And, whenever I turn it up any higher like 800*600 which thats when nVidia driver kicks in then computer would go blank after restart or if I just crank it up there it would eventually freeze BUT, the mouse still alive.
I've tried all kinds of driver
I have directx 8a
tried
6.5
6.72
10.50
10.80
7.52
6.49
I also changed the monitor to plug and play monitor and it still doesnt help. My monitor is viewsonic e-771
all of them came up the same result everytime I set it to desire color and resolution(actually I tried couple different resoution or color) and the window tells me to restart the computer and upon going into the normal window mode it just turn the monitor blank.

Following is my setting
win98se
Directx8a
T-bird 800
MSI K7tpro
Geforce2 GTS
Crucial Ram 128meg 133 cas2
Viewsonic E-771 monitor

How about walking us through the steps you take to install new drivers...

Sounds like they aren't installed right.

ok, here it goes.

I kind of knew that might be one problem so I tried two different method.

I did it in safe mode because I have too much difficulty in normal mode.

1. Go to video properties and go to adaptor and click change adaptor and I also go to display a list of driver and manually search for my driver and let it upgrade there and always written over existing driver when it asks me that the newer driver is already is already exist.

2. 2nd method I go to control panel and go to system and video driver and click update driver and again manually search my new driver.

An astonishing result

I just uninstalled AOL 6.0 and everything went fine now, I actually switched the resolution back to 1024*768 by 32bit color and restarted the computer twice and both time it booted well and went to windows and everything went well so far.

grrr...

the aol6 effect only lasted very briefly...
I am now back at the 640*480 by 16 color now
it seems for unknown reason whenever it is about to
change from 640*480 and 16 color to a richer resolution
it frozes, and even sometimes it does work it only work very
briefly before it frozes, NOTE: the mouse is always alive
never gone down with the computer.

Does anyone knows the solution or any opinion is cool.
I am sick and tired of this 16 color with 640 by 480 mode
