"Finally, Nvidia will release a new dual-GPU flagship, the GTX 490. The better thermal characteristics of GF104 means a dual-GPU product is possible with a TDP of under 300W. However, considering the GTX 460 matches, or even slightly outperforms the GTX 465, a dual-GPU 460 will simply not be enough to take the performance crown away from the HD 5970. It will, however, close the massive gap between the GTX 480 and the HD 5970. The power consumption is described to be "extreme" and is likely to end up as 300W."

Well that's no good...but understandable if they want to keep within 300w.

Anybody know what is actually changed in GF104? Just better binning?

If it can be clocked high enough, it's a possible contender for the crown. We don't know at this point though. I just hope GF104 is cheap.

If it matches or slightly exceeds the performance of the 465 you could expect a release MSRP of $250-$280. A reasonable value in this market but hardly cheap.

Could see the dual version weighing in at mid 500s as well.

Which ones are harvested GF100 and which ones are GF104? In any case, I take it as a sign that NV is finally gearing up to speed. With future revisions and driver improvement Fermi architecture can only get better.

If one of those offer GTX 285-ish performance @~$200, I may bite.

If GF104 ends up being 384 CUDA cores natively, then pulling off a 300 watt TDP with dual GPUs would be very very impressive.

In fact, wouldn't that be a strong sign that TSMC has really improved their 40nm Fermi process?

If so, what could we expect from the next respin of GF100?

Isnt the GF104 a stripped down Fermi though? Taking otu some cache and other HPC related items? I think the Fermi arch will be great once the process problems are sorted out. It may take a new node for the arch to really shine however.

According to Fudzilla, GF104 will have L2 cache removed.

At this point I am still confused on whether it will be 256 or 384 CUDA cores. Wasn't GF102 going to be the chip with 384 sp's?

If rumors are to be believed...

The GF104 is not just a binned GF100.

It is a different chip that has fewer shader/CUDA/whatever cores and less or no on-die cache.

Gaming performance does not necessarily increase in a linear fashion with more shaders.

As I understand it, the cache was to benefit GPGPU performance.

With fewer shaders and no cache, transistor count is down. Lower transistor count means less heat and less power draw, which helps...

Clock speeds! :awe:

Yeah but according to BSN will have reduced L2$. :)

Let just hope GF104 has better yields than GF100 - it will be larger than Cypress after all.

I'm so f'ing lost in regards to Nvidia's upcoming product line-up. Hopefully they're fast and put some downward pressure on prices.
