Hi all,
I want to upgrade my video card, as of now i only have a tnt2 ultra and it's just not cutting it any more. I am thinking about either getting an Nvidia geforce 2 ti of some sort or an ATI Radeon 7500, i shouldn't need anything better than either of those cards and i don't really want to spend more than $125 or there abouts. I was wondering which card would work better, i run a dual boot with win98se and winXP pro. I have a 1.2ghz AMD athlon on on ABIT KT7A-RAID board, a santa cruz soundcard, netgear NIC, 60gig maxtor 7200rpm hd, pioneer dvd-rom, and an hp 9100 cd-rw. Also, if the Nvidia is recommended, which is the best geforce 2 ti (a brand recommendation please). I'm also looking for a tv-out feature on the card. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Performance and stability are both issues of course.

Thank you very much in advance,
John

I find this can be a really touchy subject. I have some friends who swear by NVidia, yet I'm a Radeon man myself. I'll just tell you what I think. Radeon drivers suck for the most part. It takes them a while to get good drivers. If you're running 2K or lower, the drivers are fine. XP, you'll still have to wait. I noticed on Radeon boards, you definately get better picture quality and detail. My AIW whips the cr*p out of my buddy's GF3. When playing EQ, I can see every detail on my character. I haven't had any problems.

Still his GF3 is REALLY NICE. When play CS or Ultima, his motions are flawless. My opinion? It's what you're into. Just games and lots of motion. Geforce. Good detail, and TV at the same time, AIW. Hope this helps!

I've had a lot more problems with drivers in XP with my Radeon AIW than my Geforce2 GTS. I would agree that the picture quality and text is better on the Radeon.

as far as drivers, the 8500s aren't too great but getting good quick. I've heard a few reviewers commenting on how good the 7500s are though. One of the reviewers said it was the only set of drivers to never have a problem.

I'd say the GF2 TI for speed, if you want the dual monitors and tv out the 7500.

well said bevancoleman

Whichever you can afford? I've never liked Nvidia, don't ask me why. =) Doesn't really matter, either should be such an awesome upgrade anyway you wouldn't care.

either nvidia or Ati will be a good upgrade for you. If you did not missed the geforce3 ti200 deal for $99.99 from bestbuy--it would be a very great buy. But it was only for halfday after thanksgiving sales deal.
