Nvidia Optimus technology to arrive for desktops as Synergy

I think this would be fantastic...lower power for the PC, but most important this should mean even better support and drivers for laptops. I still want to see gaming laptops with optimus but all the hippies think the drivers are terrible so they refuse to do it. As it is right now I would still take minor errors and twice the battery life. Hopefully this will mean Optimus with 550M and better.

I'd hit it. 😀 My corner home office has one wall facing South and one facing West, so come Summer it gets mighty warm in here. I'm to the point that I'm considering using a KVM so that I can have a secondary computer for non-gaming that uses less than 50W (something like a stock clocked dual core Sandy Bridge with IGP and an SSD) and only boot up my gaming rig for gaming. The problem is my main monitor is a 30" and dual link KVMs are really expensive, plus I run two monitors.

Sounds like Nvidia is scared of Lucid Logix's Virtu technology being a hit with consumers.

One other possible benefit of this, Quicksink on any Sandy Bridge with a Nvidia card.

That wouldn't work with the P67. So a lot of us will still have to buy new mobos anyway. Personally I'll have to go with Virtu as will a few others I know who have AMD cards.

I love Optimus on my laptop but I don't wanna deal with it on my desktop. I still have to manually set-up profiles for correct GPU switching (despite profiles are supposed to be automatic) and its pretty tiresome.

As long as optimus isnt forced on desktop users I think its a good thing. As I mentioned I think the larger the install base the better it will get and thus the better it will be for laptops. Thats what Im hoping for, that and higher end mobile GPUs with it.
