Nvidia - nv4_disp.dll error/BSOD?

I'm waiting until the 9800 series from nVidia are released on March 25 to pick up a new 8800 GT, but recently read about a dreaded nv4_disp.dll error/BSOD.

Do nVidia cards still have this problem? How rare is it? And is there a fix?

I've never owned an nVidia card (went from the Monster II > Voodoo3 > ATi Radeon series).

Any help and info would be great!

Never heard about that problem and my last 4 videocards were all Nvidia.

Thanks, and I've already committed - ordered my MSI 8800 GT from Newegg.com a few minutes ago (they even let me use the expired promo code for an extra $15 off!!!! I've got a man-crush on the Egg!!!).

There's always the "driver stopped" error if you need something to keep yourself occupied. :p

I got that error with a 8800GTS 640 due to a driver issue. I get it once in a while if I OC my 8800GT too far as well.

thilian... if the "driver error" is solved by reducing your OC then its not a driver error...

Vista has a WONDERFUL feature, if the video card crashes, it will power cycle the video card and terminate the driver (giving you a "driver error" message). Almost every case I see of people complaining that their driver's crash is due to faulty hardware or overzealous OC. Although errors are possible, they are rare and I don't know of anyone who has them on regular cards.

This error/crash was a big problem for me in WoW some time ago, was purely a driver issue that once I swapped to the 97.95 drivers at the time fixed it. It also only happened in certain areas of Outlands, usually around the bird dude camps. I havent seen the crash though in a long time, I also no longer play WoW.

Please read my full post or if you did then try understanding it first before you post. I specifically stated in my post that it was due to an OC on my GT but it WAS DEFINITELY a driver issue on my GTS 640. Was that so hard to understand??!!
