nVidia noob temp/perf questions

I am relatively new to the nVidia world having ATI cards for years. I recently bought an XFX 7950GT (the one with no fan and big heatpipes) because I want a quiet rig. Temperatures inside the case (Mobo, CPU, HDs) are within normal limits with no intake fan (a little on the warm side but nothing serious). However, I noticed that this card roasts under load...

Idle: 67C Load: 120C :Q

I added a quiet intake fan to the case and it is a little better but it's still high...

Idle: 63C Load: 102C 🙁

In the nVidia Control Panel it says 130C is the slowdown threshold but isn't this kind of high?

Is it reasonable to expect such high temps? Any harm in doing so? Will the card eventually shutdown (or otherwise protect itself) if it gets too hot?

Thanks,
Richard
