When will this funny business stop?

"It has come to the attention of Eidos that an unreleased patch for Tomb Raider: AOD has unfortunately been used as the basis for videocard benchmarking. While Eidos and Core appreciate the need for modern benchmarking software that utilizes the advanced shading capabilities of modern graphics hardware, Tomb Raider: AOD Patch 49 was never intended for public release and is not a basis for valid benchmarking comparisons. Core and Eidos believe that Tomb Raider: AOD performs exceptionally well on NVIDIA hardware." - Paul Baldwin, Eidos

S3 should buy Trident/SIS and complete the circle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will never buy another nVidia based video card or a game that plays this kind of crap. This is bullshit, plain and simple. This may be class action lawsuit time. If you buy a game it should say that it has drivers that will ID your video hardware and cripple the quality of the visuals unless it is a certain brand.

i bet you have said something similar about ATI's drivers in the past. If nVidia turns themselves around, you will be back.

Exactly - I owe no hardware manf my loyalty or money. They must earn it. Up until recently my last few motherboard and video card purchases were from Asus and Nvidia. Well, my most recent motherboard is an Abit (IC7-Max3) and my video card is by ATI (Sapphire 9800NP). In both cases I couldn't be happier.

To be honest, I've looked at some of the screenshots claiming to show Nvidia's new Det's horrible IQ compared to ATI or previous Nvidia Det's and I just don't see much if any difference. And that's a screenshot. How much difference is there going to be when you're flying through a level? If Nvidia is customizing their drivers to produce a higher framerate in certain games/apps that's a good thing because it gives the end user better performance. That said, if it *significantly* lowers image quality or excludes effects it's a very very bad thing. I don't know enough to give a valid opinion but from what little I've seen so far the IQ of Nvidia isn't far off ATI.

Maybe it's just me but it seems like it's just "pile on Nvidia" time lately and everyone is jumping on the bandwagon because they don't want their name associated with Nvidia's "cheating".

Meh

Personally I think that both companies have been caught 'cheating'

However the bottom line for me right now is that Nvidias cards are overpriced and under powered, and the 5200 is such a joke I think it is deceptivley marketed. When people see 5200 they assume that it is better than 4600 and thats a joke we all know

kind of like radeon 9200 and 8500 (although this is not AS big a difference)

all big companys are scum

fanboys are stupid

Actually I've owned more nVidia video cards than Ati. I had a V550 TNT card when everyone was probably whinning about their Rage Fury drivers. I owned Geforce1 DDR's before the Radeon1 came out, so I missed the early driver problems, But traded my Leadtek Geforce1 for a Radeon1 and noticed immediately how much better everything looked than the Leadtek and an Asus GF1 DDR I had at the time. And the newer Ati drivers never gave me any problems, so I kept on buying Ati, and have been very happy.

This is'nt a fanboy issue, or this crap about "I don't owe any company my loyalty, they must earn it" To me, this is about honesty, the kind of honesty you apply when you put your garantee on a deal with a handshake, and you know there is nothing that will keep you from backing it up. I am so shocked about the poor decisions nVidia is making as of late.

This issue is not about Frames Per Second or IQ. This is about giving money to a company to write code into the game app to ID the customers device driver and purposely make the game look worse.

Just wait till they start ID'ing Lower teir nVidia hardware from High teir nVidia hardware to accomplish the same thing. This will be the end result of this. They want you to buy the most expensive peice of hardware, not the low-end stuff.

At this point what do you expect Nvidia to do? Sit on their hands and work on their next-gen card while ATI takes over the current market selling Radeons in anticipation of the Half-Life 2 and other DX9 games right around the corner? Of course not. They are doing what any big company would do and that's try and get their current product competitive under DX9, even if it sacrifices IQ for performance. There's a bunch of customers out there that paid good money for a video card. If they can't fix the problem they need to find a workaround (even if imperfect) or they are going to leave those users high and dry. What else are they going to do? Recall these "non-compliant" DX9 cards? In a perfect world maybe but in reality fat chance!
