nVidia nForce4 6.66 issue..

I just wanted to mention that I am having an issue running the nVidia nForce4 AMD chipset drivers.

Version 6.53 works fine, but once I install the 6.66 set, I can't shutdown or restart the computer without pressing the restart button or the shut down button.

Here are my specs:
ASUS A8N-e (rev. 2.0, BIOS 1008)
AMD 3500+
nforce 6.53
x800 XL (catalyst 5.9)
2 x 80gb SATA
1 x 200gb SATA
420w PSU
Windows XP (32bit)

Make sure to update your BIOS!!. There is a major conflict problem with older nvraid bios version and the new nforce driver. You must have 4.84 nvraid rom BIOS in order to use 6.66 flawlessly. Otherwise there is a chance that you will encounter some major system failure and data loss. Asus already included the nv raid rom bios update in their mobo BIOS

Which BIOS revision are you using? The last I had seen on ASUS was the 1008 revision, the next one was still in BETA.

6.67? 6.80? Where do you see those? The last one I see is 6.66, June (or July, can't remember) 15th

PEACE (thanks for input)

Well Im using an EPOX board but i have issues with 6.66 also and mine is major, total system failure. SO I just stick to 6.53 driver. Ive found the info on a diff board where asus users talked about this problem. It seems that asus released a bios update then suggested that u should upgrade to 6.65 driver.

Link

Also the last driver was a typo that is not 6.68, but 8.12. Though there is a confusion about that driver it seems, cause some say it is for Intel some say it is for nvidia and some say it is for both. From what I have heard and read it seems that ppl are having lots of issues with 6.66 so i would try to steer away from it.

Some nforce4 drivers

For me only 6.53 driver worked fine all the others caused total system failure, XP wont boot at all.

Alright, thanks again.

Yeah, there are two seperate nForce4 driver sets, one for AMD based motherboards and one for Intel based (915p or something like that)

I've actually just gotten the "can't shutdown or restart" problem with 6.53 drivers, so I figure it must have something to do with the 1008 BIOS update, I was at 1005 before without any issues.

I will continue my struggle!

hehehe

Thanks

Asus mobos are fussy about the mobo drivers. My A8N did not like the NVidia Forceware drivers. It's rock stable with the Asus drivers from their website (they're ForceWare drivers that are tweaked for Asus mobos).

Well, I just got done installing the new drivers, and I'm still getting that issue...anyone?

Thanks for all the help all!

So, I updated my BIOS to revision 1010.001 BETA and the system seems to be running fine, and it shuts down properly...for now.

If I have get any issues still, I will return to post.

PEACE

If you still read this, are you able to give me the 1010.001 bios in any way? since its not downloadable anymore i wouldnt ask
thanks
