Ummmm....I thought DX10 hardware was in all 8 series cards...I don't understand how they can just remove the DX10 hardware. So it doesn't have unified shaders?? Someone explain please if you can.

if the Mid and low end 8 series are lacking DX10 support (I very much doubt that is true) then what is the point of purchasing them?

Most people will just continue to use their exsisting mid-high end DX9 setups then...

Possibly the author of the article is being "overly" cautious. Because he wasn't told it was DX10 compatable, he doesn't want to get caught later by assuming it has it "now".

8600's have 64 unified shaders, correct? Why wouldn't they be Dx10 is the better question of the day.

If the mid range cards don't support DX10 (95% likely they WILL support) then DX10 will be dead in the water.

The way I read it, the GTS has DX10 and the GT is just DX9

Seems like marketing so you buy the more expensive part, shame on nvidia if this is true

Who knows but nVidia may go the GeForce4-Ti4600 route where this card, the Ti4400 and the Ti4200 supported DirectX 8 whilst their lower end MX460/440/420 supported just DirectX 7.

Actually it is AMD who is not supporting DX10 in their full line up. The X2300 is a rebadged X1400

That was the last series Nvidia did this. I think the consumer feedback was heard loud and clear as people didnt like buying what they thought was a GF4 only to find out it was an upped GF2.

5000, 6000, 7000 series all have the same base feature set. The difference being the ability to use these features at acceptable performance levels. I dont expect the 8000 series to be any different.

No way Nvidia exclude DX10 functionality on the 8 series midrange (or budget range), since DX10 support is the most major attraction.

That wouldn't even be possible if they are based on the same GPU (which they are). The entire line will be DirectX 10
