But most importantly no G80 yet? (since the new cards are targeted to ATi's new offerings around October)
Sources from the graphic market tipped nVidia planned to put Geforce 7900GS into retail market in late August. The price is between $179 and $199. It targets on ATi?s new mainstream product in October - Radeon X1650XT.
Geforce 7900GS is originally a special version for the OEM market, where it has been used in mainstream to high-end branded PC like Dell, HP and Lenovo. Share the same core with 7900GT as G71, the GS version has 1 less Pixel and Vertex Shader Unit. There are 20 Pixel Shader Pineline and 7 Vertex Shader Engine, like 7800GS. The core speed is 450MHz, together with 256MB memory at 1.32GHz.
Its rival, ATi Radeon X1650 is available in October. It?s manufactured by TSMC with 80nm process, and is more powerful than RV530. RV560 has 8 Pixel Shader Unit and 24 Pixel Shader Processor, with 600MHz core speed and 1.4GHz memory speed. The build-in CrossFire Compositing Engine makes the cards to achieve CrossFire without Master/Salve card. With no doubt, it?s a great product. Yet its rivals nVidia Geforce 7900GS and 7600GT are a headache to ATi.
In addition, the retail price of Geforce 7600GT has been reduced to $130. Since OEM manufacturer Palit has got a special price of G73GT from nVidia, the price war on Geforce 7600GT has begun. To lower the cost, manufactures are releasing 7600GT in 4-level PCB. Therefore, the sales in ATi Radeon X1600 family have been greatly affected by the price war.
The latest price for Radeon X1650XT is $169-$199, targeting on Geforce 7600GT. To facing nVidia Geforce 7900GS and the price cut of Geforce 7600GT, ATi has to give out new strategy to keep Radeon X1650XT in a benefited position. And the market has also expected nVidia will release more new high-end products in the short coming future to against Radeon X1950PRO (RV570). The new product is probably called Geforce 7950GT.
