Nvidia IDE SW driver makes my DVD and CD drives disappear or turn SCSI?

I have the epox 8rda and when I install the nforce 2.0 drivers (after sp1 of course) it asks me if i would like to install the nvidia ide driver that performs better. If i do one of my cdrom drives disappears and the one that remains says its scsi.
They are both on the same ide channel but this should not matter. I'm back to using microsofts ide drivers but would like to use the nvidias.
Thanks in advance.

Windows classifies all third party drivers for mass storage adapters as SCSI. This is normal. You shouldn't be losing drives though.

Welcome to the wonderful world of bleeding edge hardware. The chips may be ready ... their software most certainly is not.

hey peter.. all my problems that i described in my previous thread about my kt266a crashing constantly are compeltely gone.. theres no problem whatsoever with this nforce system. i put in my audigy, 56k modem, tv tuner, gf3, and nic and it all worked right the first time.. hasnt crashed or given any errors yet.

i have not memtested my memory yet on the nforce 2 (as you might remember i had a ton of memory errors on my kt266a board). but if the comptuer doesnt report any errors.. im going to assume its ok and that it was via's fault.

im goign to try the ide sw drivers again with the latest bios, 12/16, i was using 12/06

Check Epox's site for the latest nforce2 drivers. Even though Nvidia's drivers from their site have a higher designation, chances are the latest drivers are on your mobo makers site even though they have a lower designation. That's the case with the A7N8X...version 1.16, but they are the latest for the A7N8X.

Don't assume. Run the memtest86 ... nForce2 chipset pushes DDR RAM even harder to its limits than ye olde SiS 735 chipset does.

ok i ran memtest, no errors
must be good crucial memory... im never buying via chipsets again even if they overtake intel and brand everyone with a serial number and force us into death camps if we don't buy via products
