for some reason I find people who own ati cards have little or no problems at all...while people who don't have the cards generally complain more for some reason.....now obiously...there are people who have problems...but I find most people to have little or no problems...and now that the newest drivers are released that fix the "high poly bug" ati drivers are looking better...and yes...I do own a radeon 8500...

No, but you VERY seldom here of the infinite loop bug out side of nVidia.

No argument there. My intent was simply to point out that isolating nVidia as the source of this infinite loop error might not be a valid conclusion. This is, of course, assuming that the loop error being reported by the albeit smaller number of ATI 8500 users is related the the nVidia loop error in some way.

Golden Member could've not bitten the bait...regardless. I purchased an ATI 4MB PCI for $565 back in 1995. ATI was my favorite video card manufacturer for quite a few years since then. The past few years there drivers have sucked more and more. I do cheer for more and more people to buy ATI cards so there is competition in the market (lowers prices, pressure for high performance) but S3 has better video card drivers it seems like than ATI. (yes I've owned well over 5 or 6 ATI video cards...driver issues with every one just about).

<< ATI drivers are amazing,

No they aren't. To this day they have fundamental problems in Quake3 and Unreal plus they have a bunch of other problems not specifically related to certain games.

nVidia's drivers might not be perfect but they're pretty darn close. Also I have to see anyone's HD get corrupted from installing nVidia drivers like has happened to one guy at Rage3D with the latest leaked ones. Tell me, how the hell do video card drivers corrupt your HD? WTF is ATi doing with those drivers?

I think you'll find that the problem had nothing to do with the drivers, a more likely cause is that it's just another idiot newbie who got a puter for christmas. :)

From what i can tell ATI drivers no longer have major issues with specific games, so for the majority of people its a great buy. On the otherhand, just ask John Carmack on his thoughts between Nvidia and ATI drivers and he'll tell you the difference :);)

<< "all the driver since last Nov" do not work just fine with "absolutely no problem at all" and it's kinda rude to tell people to shut up because you happen not to have problems with 2 out of tens of thousands of cards that are being used. >>

Just shut up Merlocka.

<< lol guys, you are turing a thread about the GeForce4 to a flame war between ATI fanboys and nVidoits. >>

nVidiots, LOL!!!!!!!!!

Well of course NVIDIA wont release the TI4200 for a while. If they released it now then everyone would buy that card instead of their ridicolously priced TI4600s. And as far as ATI's drivers goes, I think that they have done an excellent job improving their drivers after people started complaining. They deserve a little credit!!

Nvidia's drivers aren't exactly perfect either. The only reason that everyone THINKS that Nvidia's drivers seem better is because they release new ones every week. But in fact, half of Nvidia's drivers SUCK!!! How many times have you read a thread when new drivers were released and everyone rushed out to try them, only to find out that they are worse than the ones they had before, so they switch back and think nothing of it. But every time that ATI comes out with a new set of drivers, and one person in the entire world has a slight problem, its like OH COME ON ATI, YOU GUYS CANT DO ANYTHING RIGHT!!! So some people really need to think before they speak.

I own a Geforce 2 PRO, a Kyro 2, and a Radeon 32mb, and I cant say that the Geforce 2 PRO is really that much better. The next video card I am getting is the new Radeons when they come out.

Essentially the 4400/4600 = pure profit. There are very very small differences in production costs. Essentially verifying what clock speed yields will run at. They just want to make as much money as possible.

Everywhere is sold out on 4600s why would they even bother trying to sell/produce a cheaper card. Its not like they are doing it purposely ie warehousing Ti 4200 chips in favor of 4600s.....

Perhaps it is PEBCAK but then again it's also hard to explain what went wrong between the steps of install drivers -> reboot -> corrupted HD.

Just shut up Merlocka.

I'm terribly sorry, was I inconsiderate towards your favorite brand of computer hardware? My deepest AsPcOrLeOwGyIoEuS.
