Nvidia gtx480 power issues

Hi All,

Hope you can help me out with this one...

I have a Zotac gtx480 video card and Crossair TX750 power supply. The issue is whenever I plug in both the 6 and 8 pin connectors the pc power light turns on but none of the fans work (video card, CPU, motherboard fan). If I unplug the connectors from the video card then everything starts up fine and the on board video card gets picked up.

From everything I have read online this psu should work with the video card. My motherboard is Asus Rock h61m vS.

Any ideas from the pros here?

Something is shorted possibly. Try reseating the card. The card might have failed -- when did the problem start?

I tried that as well, I haven't used the card in a year, didn't have time to play StarCraft... 🙂

If I plug just one 6 pin plug the fan on the video card works and the computer starts up however under device manager the card doesn't show up and the pc uses the on board video card. I tried installing new drivers but when installing the setup says it cannot pick up an nvidia device.

So not sure if it can't pick it up because there's only one 6 pin connector connected or because of something else...

Yes, you need to plug in all power plugs. The card should refuse to work otherwise (it could possibly overload the other remaining power connections.)
