NVidia GTX 680 users - question for you

I have a pair of 7970's, I have a number of problems which I am trying to determine whether its Windows, the GPU or something else. In particular the problem I show in this very short Youtube video (pause it and see the difference between the pointer and the highlight box drawing): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m48UFdw8dvk

Could someone with a NVidia 680 GTX do the same experiment with Windows Performance settings for appearance set to "Best Appearance"? I only want the last bit for consistency because with the default of windows choosing I don't know what NVidia's top end selects. You should clearly see a gap of about 1 cm or more on your screen if you are suffering from the problem as well.

Thanks in advance.

The gap is obvious in your video, and I don't see it at all on my screen unless I throw the mouse around wildly. Which you're not lol. I don't appear to have that issue.

Just test on my HD 7970 system, it also has that lag (I never noticed it) but it is now where near as wide as yours. 1080p monitor by the way.

I'll test the GTX 680 system now...

EDIT: Just tested the GTX 680 system, identical to mine. There is a little gap if you move slowly, but again no where near as wide as yours.

HD 7970 is running the Cata 12.3

GTX 680 is running the WHQL 301

Not sure what it can be on your end.

So after monkeying on my system, I can definitely get the gap wide, as wide as yours.

It seems to affect horizontal movement more than vertical. Going to try the same thing on the GTX 680 system.

EDIT: Same thing on the GTX 680. This is probably a Windows UI issue. Not sure if I'd actually categorize this as a problem.

This suggests that there is someway to go back, to make it not lag as much. What are the settings you used to make it worse and hence which I can set back to make it go away?

Its not so much that highlighting is a problem, its just a way to show up GUI latency which also shows itself in various other ways as well, but its not obvious on Videos that text entry is laggy because you can't see the key presses happening.

My GTX 680 does the same exact thing. Don't think it's a problem, more endemic of Windows, as mentioned before.

I actually didn't alter my settings. Just sat there and moved the mouse around while holding down right-click.

After a few movements it became more evident. I also noticed it more moving horizontally versus vertically.

Again, it's something I don't think I would have noticed unless I was directly looking at the pointer and the edge of the blue frame.

Settings are same as you, set to look as best as possible.

I used MSI Afterburner with its special overclocking option to turn off the power saving and now its just a few pixels behind. But right after I did the overclock I saw no difference, but now hours later its probably a frame or so which is much more acceptable.

But the thing that bothers me is that GPU usage is effectively nothing (<5%) whether its running at full speed or not. I don't understand why pushing 2x the clocks helps in this case with such low loading. I also don't understand why it is the mouse pointer is ahead of the screen rendering at all!

This highlighting isn't the problem I face, what I notice is its correlated with the mouse feeling like its moving more slowly. Whether in practice its slower or I am just perceiving a low frame rate I can't really tell, but it doesn't feel normal. This is a problem that seems to come and go and I am yet to fully understand why.

But if its there on NVidia cards as well at least I know its not AMD's drivers. Thanks for the help.
