NVidia GTX 295 Driver Issue(s)!!

Guys,

I recently updated the drivers for my GTX 295 from NVidia's website so the latest version I got was 196.75.

When I went on the site today to check for updates, it says the latest version of the driver is 196.21!! This was the PREVIOUS version from which I updated to the 196.75!

Why did they roll it back? Or did they?

And, my 3Ds Max 2010 keeps crashing and I'm not sure why. I am just starting out in 3d modeling and the stupid program crashes when I'm working with about 100-200 polygons; which is NOTHING in 3d models. It didn't crash before as I've had the program for about 3 weeks now. It just started crashing today. I wondered if it was the driver so I went to NVidia and found the above issue.

What the heck is going on?

What should I do and can anyone help me regarding this 3Ds Max 2010 crashing?

The 196.75. drivers were the latest drivers for a short period of time and were pulled due to them breaking fan control for non-reference cards which resulted in the cards being cooked to death.

For the time being the 196.21 drivers are the latest and recommend switching to them.

Guys,

Thanks for the advice. I just saw your replies this morning and immediately rolled back the drivers!

That kind of scared me but thank heavens the computer seems to be working fine!

Regarding "bbq'ing the GTX-295", I checked my Hardware Monitor and this is what it shows:

(can't attach screenshot so I'll write it out)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295

  • Temperatures:
    • GPU Core 41C (105F) 41C (105F) 42C (107F)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295

  • Temperatures:
    • GPU Core 52C (125F) 51C (123F) 53C (127F)
Are those temperatures safe? Especially the second core's 51-53C?

Thanks.
