is that binary? why not just call it the 744gtx in that case? ;)

btw, I think that you can get an 8800gt 512 for more like $180 shipped these days :)

So far away.

Thanx for the heads up.

How's July?

if gt 200 is really g92-based then there will be some very unhappy video card and graphics forum members out there methinks.

Why would they be upset? Nvidia aren't going to make a whole new architecture just because they feel like it. G80 (and its g92 derivative) are still going strong, so it would make sense to have "GT200" an extension of that only with more of everything.

I am not really worried about this upgrade. A lot of the current gen cards are performing fairly well except the high resolutions...but a 75% of gamers game on 1680*1050

Amm they would be sad because nvidia isn't releasing the true monster due to lack of competition. Do you really want the GPU cycle to become like the CPU cycle where we see very small performance incremental. Northwood to Prescott ... a terrible time for intel CPU advancement history.

Note that GT200 will be a new GPU core. A big monolithic one on 65nm.

The 92 @ 55nm (G92b) is for the rest of the market. Where GT200 is high end, G92b fills the rest of the gap in the high~mid end of the market.

But im kind of doubting its naming scheme as the 9900 series. I mean the jump from 8800 to 9800 is pretty laughable, but current rumours pointing at something twice as powerful as a full fledged G80 is going to be the 9900 series makes me think "what the hell are the marketing guys at nVIDIA smoking?"

No it is not some April Fool jokes. VR-Zone has learned that there will be two high end parts from Nvidia to replace the current GeForce 9800 GX2 and 9800 GTX in Q3. These two parts are GeForce 9900 GTX and GeForce 9900 GT based on the new GT200 architecture. GeForce 9800 GX2 and GTX will have a short lifespan since they will be replaced in a couple of months time. Nvidia has positioned GeForce 9900 GTX to replace 9800 GX2 and this gave a clue that a single GT200 card will actually outperform a dual G92 card. Likewise for GeForce 9900 GT, outperforming and replacing 9800 GTX. CJ revealed to us that Nvidia will have a hard time fitting GT200 onto the PCB since the GPU is gonna be large and very power hungry so we can probably assume it is still 65nm based. The PCB for GT200 will be P651.

That is the same speculation that i posted 3 weeks ago ... it is making a comeback with a vengeance.
... so expect r700 in June - IF it is true. ;)

GT200 is apparently already taped out and Waiting for r700!

there is no "proof" in any of these speculation threads. The only thing that we know for certain is that amd and nvidia both have new gpus coming out in a few months... well, we THINK they're coming out in a few months. Either one or both could still have problems.

Mt x1950xt is an awsome card..just can't stand the heat any longer (my room gets toasty). Got a GTS to last me until next year..hopefully geforce 10 + die shrink by then. This is typical for Nvidia IMO...but it seems like they have found a way to charge premiums more frequently with the same gpu architecture now. That's what happens when there is no competition from ATI at the high end...but still not complaining too much. Midrange was non-existant up until last December.

I'm sure, like most companies, once Nvidia finishes developing the product and RTM it, they immediately start on the next one. Actually, they probably had the specficiations for the next card figured out months ago, but it takes much time to plan on the manufacturing and costs. What do you think, the guys at Nvidia release a new chipset and then sit around on their asses playing games for a couple months until they start working on a new product? :) Companies that have that attitude don't last.

As it is with everything that comes out, no point to speculate or grieve over your latest purchases. These days, technology is moving at such at fast rate, it can drive one mad trying to keep up with it. As many have mentioned, if you got the money and it is your hobby, make the decision for yourself and don't worry about other opinions.

Its actually over 2 years from paper to product, sometimes more. There are multiple architectures being developed at the same time at all times.

NV50 was in development for over 4 years.
