Nvidia Graphics Slowdown on Games

i have 2 graphics in my laptop, INTEL HD Graphics 4000 and GT 740m

i have chosen "GT 740m" as my "Preferred graphics processor" in the NVIDIA control panel.

i played dota 2, in the starting menu of dota 2, the game is so slow, maybe like 10-20 fps only.. it seems like my NVIDIA video card is not working.... BUT when im already playing the game.. the NVIDIA video card start working, everything is fine, video settings maxed out and FPS is stable...

so what can be the problem? why NVIDIA video card doesnt always RUN everytime?

i also tried playing GUNBOUND, in the main menu, it is so slow.. AND.. when im already in the game fighting, the game freezes, its like video card cant catch up... so i had to end task in task manager.
 
my laptop is Lenovo z400.

what difference does it make if i download from Nvidia's website or Lenovo's website?

arent those same drivers?

coz i always read from different forums and websites, you should download the official driver from video card company (nvidia or amd)
 
Last I heard, nvidia reference drivers were not usable on Lenovo laptops without severely screwing things up. Sadly, some OEMs allow nvidia reference drivers and other designs do not - I do believe you are required to use Lenovo's drivers on their laptops, which is an unfortunate situation since they're still on the 314 release.

If anyone has a lenovo laptop, by all means chime in - but i've heard this from MANY folks recently. Basically, unless you use Lenovo's drivers, optimius and graphics switching will be FUBAR'ed. I've heard this from several folks.
 
Those are not the same drivers. Lenovo are usually slower on the drivers and skip the beta drivers.

Also what do you have enabled in the bios? It may be that the drivers only activate when there is full screen 3D mode and there is no 3d mode in the menu.

So I'd say enable the Nvidia card in the bios.
 
i just installed the lenovo's z400 video card driver, still same..

in the main menu of Dota 2 game, my game fps is like 10-15 fps,, but when we are already fighting each other, the game's fps increase and everything goes right..

also same with gunbound, gunbound game is slow on the main menu, and when we are fighting, my game freezes.

Yeah, your bios doesn't have the option to run on the dedicated GPU, wtf?

I think it might be linked to the windows, go to performance settings and see if there is an option to run the dedicated graphic card all the time, if not try and set the performance to "fast" or "performance" and see if that does anything.

Else just contact lenovo and see if they can help you. This is why lenovo are pretty bad company though and Acer or Asus are way better.

You can install nvidia reference drivers just fine on lenovo. Dell you cannot.

My T530 has a NVS5400 that while may not be the most potent gaming GPU out there it handles 1080p fine for most games. I just use the nvidia control panel and check for updates from there. I noticed it's not the very newest release like my desktop has, but it definitely can get updates right from nvidia.
