what brand should i go with and why?

If ATI is not your bag, i would consider just getting a cheap geforce 4 ti 4200, will give equal, if not better performance than the 5600 ( without ansio and AA) for a much better price. Probably under 90.00.

If you want specifically a 5600, get the BFG Asylum 5600 ultra (flip chip with faster 400/800 clock) @ CompUSA for $129.99. BGF's design is very quiet and has some OC ability. (Nice ramsinks on memory as well). There are faster versions that are clocked by other manufacturer's by OCing them out off the line a bit, however this is the best bang for your buck in terms of price/performance when it comes to specifically a 5600 ultra.

My advice is trying to get the Radeon 9600SE @ Best Buy for $129.99 out the door with a FREE copy of Half Life 2 ONLY, AND ONLY if you can get the earlier cards that are Radeon 9600 pros that were packed inside of them. Radeon 9600pro is slightly faster than the 5600 ultra across the board in terms of performance, and quite a bit faster with HL2 benchmarks. Good luck.

well i have a ti4600 but there is some kinda problem with it and it lags bad. lol im not really sure what i did to it. it worked great for the first 6 months i had it but now its pretty much crap.

you dont think the 5600 is a good card? why? should i consider something else?

i have no problems with ATI but they seem to be more expensive and my price limit is around $150

Try to RMA your Ti4600. The Ti4600 is slightly faster than either Radeon 9600pro or FX5600 Ultra when it comes to older games or games without AA/AF. All in all, its really not much of a performance 'upgrade' with either card to justify spending an additional $150 for either card. If you have to get a new card cause there is no chance of RMA/repair, then 9600pro is probably the best bang for your buck under $150 unless you can somehow get a Radeon 9500pro.
