nvidia geforce2 ultra or ati radeon 8500 64mb under xp

Cant really place a vote as I have no experience with thte 8500, however the Geforce2 Ultra is a great card. Outperforms the Geforce FX 5200 I just sold. Does everything I could ask, plays new games at 1600x1200x32 at the highest resolution without any problems.

8500 hands down.

It's suppose to compete with Geforce 3/Ti500 series. Also it's DX 8.1 support. So DX8 > DX 7 (Ultra) and GF3 > GF2 Ultra... easy logic.

I loved my elsa gts ultra - although it did cost me nothing😀 It all depends on what you are playing dx7 games might be quicker on the nvidia due to fixed tnl, directx8 games will be better on the 8500.

Easy logic eh... Well considering a GF3 > GF4 MX >= "GF5" (5200) That doesn't make much logical sense to me but I guess it holds true for the higher end boards... GF2 Ultra < GF3 < GF4 Ti < "GF5" 5600 Ultra and up...

So in this case 8500 > GF2 Ultra, hands down too. Early GF3 vs GF2 Ultra tests proved the GF3 was minimally faster than a GF2 Ultra. Newer games and tougher resolutions and strains upon memory bandwidth allowed the GF3 to own the bandwidth inefficient GF2 GTS based GF2 Ultra, and considering an 8500 > GF3 then logically the 8500 > GF2 Ultra.

Whoa all of this is way to confusing with the greater then or equal to. I would say the 8500 simply because it has DX 8.1 support. The Ultra might be faster, but who's going to be able to tell 100fps from 90fps?

what are the prices?
and what games are played?
example: gta3 under gigabyte 8500le
sound degradation during gameplay
slows down whole game
onboard audio checked -- fine with everything else
gta3 patch an xp service pack installed
problem gets better, but not gone
installed audigy gamer
problem changes a bit, can now select creative eax, but sound degrades with different sounding reverberations than before
testing out ti4200 in system, sound problems completely disappear, plus the visual difference -- default video is sharper and all effects enabled ON THEIR OWN, floating paper, lighting effects, far distance, etc
remove ti4200
9500 pro installed, xp recognized right away
sound reverbs again, but different again also
new drivers 3.4 -- not sure about 3.6 yet
still sound reverbs and eventual degradation

different machine
dell w cel 900 + 7200 sdr pci w/win me + sb live
no sound problems whatsoever with gta3
some slowdown in heavy action stages
but sound keeps going without a hitch
