OP, you might want to update the thread title before reviews hit the web, Nvidia said the RTX 2060 beats the gameplay of GTX 1070TI, not that it's faster.
From the Anandtech article linked above.....

Quote.
"So on the whole, RTX 2060 is poised to deliver around 87% of the RTX 2070’s compute/RT/texture performance, which is an uncharacteristically small gap between a xx70 card and an xx60 card. In other words, the RTX 2060 is in a good position to punch above its weight in compute/shading performance."

I think it will be as fast or faster than a gtx1070ti.
It also has more memory bandwidth. 256gb for the 1070ti and 336gb for the 2060.
I'll leave the title as is.
About 87% of a 2070.
I'm guessing right smack on top of the Vega 64 in this chart, mabe better.

Or you could save $100 and get a used 1070, or spend the same amount on a used 1080 and beat this thing.

Nvidia can’t keep playing this game with consumers, eventually they will revolt regardless of whether or not Nvidia holds the performance crown.

I feel like this makes the 2070 a lot less interesting,

seems like a good release at a price that will sell... still kind of uncomfortable to see a "x6" model at this price.

anyway, it looks like a solid card for most gamers, and better than buying what was currently available at this price.

Nvidia killing pc gaming market.350USD for cheapest card so cards like MSI gaming will be around 380usd(and top models like gaming z will be 400usd)This is not mid range card at all.Its another overpriced turing crap.

349 dollars (mini cards) while about 20 to 30 more for twin cooler cards of decent quality. And then 30% tax in some countries. Good one.

It almost seems as if some people have forgotten that new generations of cards used to perform significantly better than old ones at the same price point. The very slow improvements in the 200-250 USD bracket over the past few years can't be good for PC gaming as a whole.

More than 5 years ago, in october 2013, I bought a Radeon R9 280X 3GB for the equivalent of 220-230 USD (excl. VAT). That card seems to perform similarly to a GTX 1050 Ti. The 1050 Ti 4GB today costs just 25% less than that R9 280X did back in 2013. Same performance and slightly more RAM for 25% less money. Yay...

The RX 570 4GB is a better value, as it can be had for 20% less than what I paid for the 280X, while performing maybe ~50% better. Still, we're approaching five and a half years since the 280X purchase and this is it?

I've actually been interested in buying a midrange card for my second computer (which uses some recycled parts from other builds). The lack of value has made me wait and hold onto my cash. I hope I'm not alone.

What i dont understand is clapping. Are people really brain dead today or it was just some crowd on nvidia payroll?Because clapping for 350+USD x60 card is just stupid. If there was tech press then Nvidia really make training monkey out of press sadly.

So everyone should give up on any generational perf improvements from here on?

Can't wait for the 3060, 2070 performance for only 450 bucks, what a deal
Remember 28nm 980 to 14nm 1080 is way better than 14nm 1080 to 12nm 2080 with Ray Tracing , what do you expect with a basic refresh vs a full node??

They already achieved a significant perf uptick per SM with Turing, through L1 and FP/INT changes

And why ignore what they accomplished in between kepler and (edit) maxwell? 780 to 980?

We also remember GTX 680/770 28nm to GTX 970 28nm.

More for the money (both performance and feature improvements) has typically been what consumers have been conditioned to and expecting. For better or worse in the past you regretted getting the last gen product a few months before release of the next gen.

The pricing is simply due to what they feel the market can command.

With that being said despite the lack of generational improvements for the money they're priced competitively given current typical market prices for new comparable products.

The actual root of all this is likely lingering mining effects, changing gaming demographics, and inflated consumer spending due to easy access to credit.

Performance difference between the gtx 1060 and 1070 =37%

The performance difference between the rtx2060 (gtx1070ti) and rtx2070 =19%

I like the smaller gap between the 60 and 70 series.

Which is the desired effect, the x60 is being pushed into the premium segments, 30/36 SMs of the 2070 isn't surprising compared to the 1060's 1280 measly cores relative to the 1070

Like arandomguy posted, nvidia is simply pushing the limits of consumer tolerance

or making a new segments called the 1160 5gb, 1150ti 4gb, and 1150, that's my guess. The 2060 seems to be a lower class 1440p card.

The next step down will likely be a card that performs slightly better than a rx 590 for $20 more, mabe a $300 gtx1160? they are just fine for 1080p.

1150 ti = rx 480
1150 = rx 470

Going by history, this is how it will be in a few months.

Maybe you should quote other relevant parts of the article. Maybe now you'll get it.

Hardware aside, while NVIDIA is calling this an xx60 class card, the price tag and general power requirements for the RTX 2060 make it feel like it’s out of place. The xx60 series has traditionally been NVIDIA’s mainstream cards; and up until the launch of the GTX 1060 6GB, these were typically around $200. GTX 1060 6GB went to the high end of this scale at $249 for custom cards (and a whopping $299 for the Founders Edition), however the $349 RTX 2060 is now well outside of the mainstream sweet spot for pricing.
thus far it looks like NVIDIA is going to be keeping their general price/performance curve for the RTX 20 series, meaning that in terms of performance in current games, the card is only going to be a mild improvement over the GeForce GTX 10 series card it replaces at this price tier.

Even Anandtech agree with essentially everyone here. Only you understand how the 2060 is such a huge improvement.

unless they are plugging the big gap between the 60 and 70 cards FINALLY!
the gtx960 and gtx 970 had a massive gap between them, the 1060 and 1070 wasn't much better. I was really hoping for GTX1060TI but instead we got a gtx 1070ti shoved 7 % under a gtx1080.

I also hope they have a card a bit slower than a gtx1070, mabe a rx 590 competitor for about the same price. Call it the gtx1160.
That will be everybodys under $280 1080p card and they can stop crying.

And of coarse the 1150ti and 1150 lower end under $200.

People need to stop the semantics argument with respect to what the cards are being named as, it's a distraction from actual meaningful issues.

The actual problem is the lack of generational improvement for how much you pay that we're used to. What they name the cards as is irrelevant. If they want to rename each segment that has zero practical impact on consumers.

If they released a card that had 50% performance improvement over the 1080ti and charged $600 for it who cares if they name it the GTX 2050.

I think we should wait and see on this one. If Nvidia launches a non RTX 2060 for $250 even if its a separate chip, as long as its as fast as 1070 or within 10% of it then it would be a good buy. Then we can safely ignore this card and just get the GTX 2060.
