NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN Black Edition

Let me start by saying this is probably the same card I’ve been writing about few weeks ago — GTX 780 Ti Black Edition. All we know for sure is that it’s a TITAN replacement and it would supposedly come with a black cooler.
The new TITAN would sport the same GPU as GTX 780 Ti, only TITAN BLACK would have higher double precision computing performance, thus more FP64 CUDA cores. The GTX TITAN Black Edition is also said to feature 6GB memory buffer. This is twice as much as GTX 780 Ti, and it pretty much confirms we won’t be seeing any 6GB Ti’s.
The rest is pretty much well known, TITAN BLACK has 2880 CUDA cores, 240 TMUs and 48 ROPs.
TITAN Black will most likely cost $999. NVIDIA will release it soon, the exact date is yet to be confirmed, but it’s most likely dictated by the 1st Gen TITAN stocks.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 790

The new TITAN will not replace GTX 780 Ti in terms of performance. TITAN series are basically a bridge between Quadro and GeForce models. Most gamers would still stick to the 780 Ti, because of the better price and similar performance.
That said, NVIDIA can’t do anything more than launch a first dual-GPU model from 700 series.
I already posted the possible specs of GTX 790. I could not verify those numbers, so please treat them with a grain of salt. Some sites took it too serious and posted them as ‘leaked’, as if it was a solid information.
GeForce GTX 790 won’t feature full GK110 cores. Instead we are expecting two 2496 CUDA-packed processors giving 4992 in total. What is also interesting is that GTX 790 will not have dual 384-bit interface, but 320 . This will also mean it won’t have 2x 6GB memory, but 2x 5GB configuration instead, that’s 10GB in total.
For those wondering why on earth would it not have full configuration, the answer is simple — power consumption. NVIDIA is aiming at 300W TDP, which is only possible with a cut-down components and lower clocks.
The GeForce GTX 790 is expected to launch shortly after GTX TITAN Black, most likely in February, maybe even in March.

Hmm. Even though I just bought a 290, G Sync, a 790 and a 4k monitor sounds really enticing!

I know relatively little about G-sync adoption, is it showing up in a lot of 4K screens? (honest question)

Not sure how I feel about the rumored 790. I'd rather just have a 780ti and overclock the pizzazle out of it. I look forward to a review though.

Geeze lol. Wouldn't this impact the 780ti pricing anyway even though the post says it's not supposed to? Cause for $250 more you can have a Black edition Titan or 790? both would be much faster in theory no?

I was thinking of the 120hz 1440p monitor. Sorry. =( Perhaps a 4k will have G Sync by the time this is released.

The Titan BE is the same card as the 780 Ti but has higher double precision compute performance and has 3GB extra ram...

Unless you program, it shouldn't matter. The 790 is basically a GTX 780 SLI with extra ram(5GB vs 3GB per chip) so it should make for a better alternative to the 780 Ti. Although the reduced memory bus may still result in the 780 SLI performing better than the 790 due to memory bandwidth...

Ehhh pure speculation and all based off of the AIC titan clearance rumor.

I'll believe it when I see more than just one article on a random site posting it.

Not yet. There was a demo of a 4k display with a G-Sync controller in it at CES, but no product announcements like there are for 1080 and 1440.

I would expect 4k G-Sync, but only once there start to be 4k 60 Hz displays showing up more commonly. Most of the new, "cheap" 4k only do 30 Hz, which means they can't do G-Sync at all since G-Sync doesn't function below 30 Hz.

Of course, why anyone think anyone's going to get a 30 Hz computer monitor is beyond me...

But to write off the possibility of G-Sync 4k would be a major error. It will happen, and probably this year.

Wait, 10GB of RAM on the 790? That would mean 5GB per chip, which seems strange since a normal 780Ti has 3GB. I am not sure how they would address 5GB of RAM with a 384bit memory bus. 4.5GB or 6GB sure, but not 5GB.

Plus, why bump up the memory so much? Why not just leave it at 3GB per chip? This rumor seams fishy, at least on the bit about the 790's memory.

EDIT: Just saw it has a 320bit bus instead of the 384. But still, why 5GB per chip?!

I'm waiting for the Titan Black TI Classified

I'm wondering how much more nvidia can squeeze out of GK110.

Assuming nVidia starts allowing custom Titans. I think it might be too low quantity of a part to have custom cards.

The Titan Black Edition would be a very strange release... although, it could be with newer revisions of the GPU Nvidia has been able to return a higher yield with all functional cores, thus allowing for a slightly faster and more powerful Titan to be released. This might explain why it seems there have been no new Titan cards on the market for months now.

Still, why the Titan Black Edition? It seems strange to simply rebadge it.

The 790 I can see, as it fits Nvidias past product release history. Pricing and RAM confuse me though... I mean, nobody is going to buy a 780ti with 3gb of vram for $700 if you can get two of them sandwiched together with so much more vram at just a few hundred dollars more.

Once you're past the $300 or $400 range... you're already dealing with a pretty exclusive class of buyers.

It's either that or they want to continue to keep it looking like a sleek professional solution instead of a rice burner with ground effects that most aftermarket cards go with.

I'm curious to see the 790. Too bad they are castrating the chip so badly. Doesn't even seem fair to call it 2xGK110. I guess it just has to be faster than the 7990 to be successful. Well that and be $1k. I'll be curious to see if people are willing to buy into a $1k card again after the last time.

There will always be that guy who buys the halo part. In small industry like this, every high margin part counts.

This is good news because after the biggest dual GPU card comes out the new gen isn't far behind.

Waiting for GK120. But seriously, I don't see these going far, just as a last cash out on Kepler before maxwell.

From Kitguru

*snip* said:
Nvidia Corp. is reportedly working on two new graphics cards that for ultra-high-end market segment. The two new solutions are based on the already known GK110 graphics processing unit and will cost $1000 and higher. A launch of two new high-end graphics boards may indicate that there will be no next-gen Maxwell architecture-based solutions in the same class any time soon.
The developer of GeForce GPUs is working on single-chip GeForce GTX Titan “Black Edition” graphics cards that inherit GK110 in its maximum configuration (2880 stream processors, 240 texture units, 48 raster operating units, 384-bit memory controller) from GeForce GTX 780 Ti and 6GB of high-speed GDDR5 memory from the original GeForce GTX Titan launched a year ago. The graphics board is set to become Nvidia’s highest-performing single-chip consumer solution. The product is expected to hit the market in February, 2014, at $999 price-point.

Two is always better than one. This is exactly why Nvidia is working on an ultimate graphics card that carries two cut-down GK110 chips (2496 stream processors, 208 texture units, 40 raster operating units, 320-bit memory bus) along with 10GB of GDDR5 memory (5GB per chip). This graphics solution, which is expected to be called GeForce GTX 790, may be the world’s highest-performing graphics card in virtually all gaming applications in all resolutions, including 2560*1600 and 3840*2160. The board is projected to hit the market in March and cost well over $1000.

Kitguru just quotes the same Videocardz article as currently present in the OP.

I missed both where kitguru listed their source and where videocardz listed prices? I thought that was new??

In the Kitguru article, the fourth word (the word "reportedly") is hypertext linked to the videocardz article, indicating that's the source.
