I believe you will get more longevity with the 6970 2GB because as many here have stated, it simply performs better at higher resolutions. You could see that translating into a slower degradation of performance in future games.

Im not looking to overclock it, but i do have the money at the moment to spend on a nice rig (£1000-1100) im hoping to spend on the Rig. With a 22' LED moniter

Have you considered 6850's in Crossfire? It will run you about the same as either card while running considerably faster.
